Another fun opening day, even if it was hot hot hot (70)

Beautiful but foggy morning so I didn't hunt the valley/field I had planned and instead went to the cutover for a short range hunt.

I love shooting stalking, and also really enjoy relaxing over a field and shooting prone but there is something nostalgic about a climbing stand in woods overlooking a field. It's how I killed my first buck and is really fun.

Opening day and the Berger 215 does it again, 124 yards.

Love 8 pointers.

Congratulation! Rifle specs? How do you like the side mount flush-mount sling?

Defiance Tenacity, mcmillan hunter stock in mcwalnut, 21" rock creek #4 in 300prc built by Alex wheeler.

Love the flush cups and won't go back to normal bottom studs. Lays better on my back while hiking and climbing and removed the stud on the rear making it better with a rear bag prone.

Great looking rifle, I built a DIY with a Tenacity & Proof pre-fit in .308, working on #2 now in 6.5CM. I had trouble with my bolt handle hitting the scope, had to sent it back to Defiance for a new handle with 10 degree bolt, was using Tally rings/bases. Next one will use the pic rail that came with it, did you have any trouble with your bolt handle? What rings are you using? Also, what bottom metal did you go with? I used Hawkins Hunter DBM but may go with a BDL set up in the future. Love that McMillan!

Yeah so if you look close that handle is not the factory defiance turned down a custom one for me that's thinner with a ball. The middle area of the handle was hitting on arc 0.79 but not seekins 0.87" rings.

They sent me this handle out and I ended up finding these seekins 0.82" perfect for me and it doesn't hit so I never checked on the arc 0.79

They have now changed the angle of the handle as of like a year ago ish? Specifically for that issue.

This is Hawkins bdl and Alex polished it to match the defiance polished finish. The mcmillan and the barrel are also polished to match.

That's a really nice looking rifle you built

Thank you! So, if I read that right, Defiance turned down a new custom handle for you? In my case, I had to take the rifle apart and send the receiver and bolt back for a new handle to be built. The receiver was purchased in January of this year, they told me it's an older model too but I bought another Tenacity in August and did a mock-up fit and the new receiver bolt hit the scope too. Hoping the pic rail will help, who knows! I've got a McMillan Game Hunter on order now (I have one for my 270 and really like it, one pictured is a Game Warden). New build will be similar, Tenacity/Proof pre-fit, Hawkins.

Ah bummer! yes defiance sent me out this turned down handle after I complained a bit, here's a better pic of the handle

I think the pic rail may help but it's just raising your scope. Scope height for me is all about where is comfortable so I'm glad that .82" on a pic rail with this stock shape works well for me.
