Has anyone used the Dynamic Research Predator bullets in 338? They seem to think their 235 gr bullet is the ballistic king for 338s. I wonder how real world performance would stack up to a 300 OTM or SMK?

There was a thread on here. Might have come over from Sniper hide. but they tested a bunch of bullets , close and I think @ 1000. I made some notes, KNS, TESTING # for the 235 was .556,236 gs=.578,245 lehigh=.631,285 Hornady=.685, 300 otm=.776. This was a independent test, looked like they went to a lot of work. Some of these mono metal bullets need a very specific barrel and twist. Jeff VN I THINK?? HAD A VERY specific set up

THAT FIRST # I gave was the DR Predator .556. tHE TESTS where done this winter near Vegas.

we've got what they need, but it's not 300gr., it's a 236 grain dose of reality that can repeatedly drill 10" groups at 2200m.

The post was called-338 bullet BC results from Snipers Hide, 4 pgs. I am comp. dumb, so I DONT KNOW HOW TO LINK IT. I run my books and bussiness on comp? It has some accuracy info, but was for BC purpose only.

I'll look for it over there. All I am saying is that they have some pretty strong feelings about their 235 Predator and are putting it out for the world to see. If what they claim is true then that bullet might be worth looking into.

I just don't see how anything in the .338 caliber class that is less than 300gr's would be able to outperform them! I mean run the #'s the lighter bullets may be able to get to the target faster and flatter but is in no way close in energy. If you are a target shooter only than I can see a place for them, but I will take my 300gr OTM's first any day of the week. I don't care if I have to dial another minute or two for the 300's. It just doesn't make any sence that some one can say a 236gr bullet with a pore .500 BC can be ballistically better. Sounds like a nice marketing ploy to me. I don't know maybe I missed something some where. The only place that I could see that particular bullet making an impact is for say the 338 win mag type calibers! I don't think it makes much sence to shoot that light of a bullet out of the large 338's with more case capacity. that's just my $.02 but I'm sure there are other's that will say differently.

I'm with ya. My rifle will be throated for 300 Bergers. I just thought it was interesting what they were stating. I found and read the Hide thread and now my head hurts. I may still load some just out of curiosity.

A couple of years ago I ran some of the 225gr cutting edge bullets out of my Lapua and I just didn't like how they ran out of energy so quick!! Give them a try and let us know how they work. Maybe they found that magic bullet design that no one else has!!!

Yes I was trying to direct you to the 4pg. short version on this site Any way here is my .02 cents. I am shooting a accuracy load @ 2725, I have shot this at just over a 1'' at 400. But it holds 1/2 moa. This gets to 1500 yrd with 1465 E, TAKES ME 13.2 MIL, 1000 TAKES ME 7MIL. and I HAVE 2291 E. You wont do that with a lite bullet in your rifle

That's great shooting. Was that Lapua or Norma? Im going with Norma. Yes, you did direct me to it. Made my head hurt. I'm trying to get inline with a GAP build with my supplied parts. Still waiting to hear back from them. So will be a while before Lucille, yes I already named her, is up and running.

It depends on how far you are shooting. All of my hunting is done inside of 1200 yards. Inside that range the 225 grain D62 cutting edge bullet I have been testing will outperform the 300 grain bullet significantly in drop and a toss up in a 10 mph wind. Recoil is far less also. Energy is not even in the discussion. If anybody thinks a 225 grain 338 bullet will not kill at 1200 yards out of a big 338 they have very little experience in this business. For extreme range over 1200 yards the heavies take over. I am testing some cutting edge 260 grain mid .7 bc this week. The new 300 Bergers are excelent long range bullets however there are other choices depending on your situation.

Each hunter must look at exactly his hunting style and where most of his shots are going to be and use a bullet that gives the best performance within those parameters.
