Sorry I was trying to say I do not want to derail your thread with my story. Also saying basically I was stupid to shoot a Kodiak bear with 30-06 ! It worked but I won't ever do that by choice again.

Honestly for what he wants to do and the species of bear involved I'd probably opt even for a plain vanilla .270 Winchester. Little more sensible for pronghorn than an equivalently flat shooting 30 cal, enough for black bear.
143gr eldx, and ohh so many factory offerings now for the PRC, low recoil and hard hitting...

How about a .308? Load it up for the bear and down for the pronghorn. Lots of factory ammo around. Worth thinking about.
