Can someone identify this? ***? Tacky, glue like substance, but a little runny!

Prior to cutting it open, saw the golf ball size bump beside antler, top of skull!

Any wound on the surface? Antler gouge from fighting? Is it in the scent gland areas like perhaps one was plugged an infected? If "no" to both of those I have no idea what that is

That's a better pic. Yeah I'd say it is probably an antler gouge, but it also could be a poaching attempt. gun) 22lr. Seen that around here before

I didn't find any bullets!

Found this, it's a match: Wildlife Disease Reference Library

If I report it to the PGC, they may issue me a new tag, but I'll have to relinquish the head! This was my first LR kill with my new rifle. Therefore, I'll have to take the loss on the meat!

See my ongoing shooting thread below for kill info.

I found a pus sack like that in a mule deer about 15 years ago. However, this one was in the hindquarters. The pus sack almost completely surrounded an arrow broad head!

I see that kind of thing all the time cutting wild game, usually an antler or tree puncture, sometimes you'll find a little hair ball in them, bullet, broadhead, another antler, tree branches, I've seen a lot!!

Ive seen similar things on the shoulders of hogs. Usually from a fight with another hog.

Probably still safe to eat, but most people i know dont chance it.
