I hunt these pesky critters quite often...not sure why I haven't started a thread here before now.

I don't hunt them for fur, I (we) hunt them to keep the population in check...so they aren't so hard on the deer and turkey populations, and livestock (have already lost 1 calf to them this year).

For years, I've hunted them with a 243...but no more...I'm gonna get them with a 280 Ackley loaded with 150 grain Nosler Accubond LR bullets.

My buddy got this one yesterday with his 270 and a 130 grain Ballistic Tip, it made the mistake of stopping to look back at him when he spooked it while checking on the cows....200 yard offhand shot while sitting on a running 4 wheeler, not bad!

From now on when we get one I'll post it in this thread, they will be sporadic (work), but I'll post them as I get them...the ranges will vary from 10 feet to 1,200 yards or more.

We've always just hunted them by sitting on a hill overlooking the river bottom and shooting them as they come out in the evening...sorta the same way I deer hunt...we've never called them or anything, but I am looking at getting a decent calling device...suggestions would be appreciated.

I use a foxpro Fury and a Mojo Critter decoy. The decoy makes a huge difference. I also use a suppressor. I killed a triple a few days ago with this system, all in the same group.

I bought a FOXPRO FURY II a couple years ago with the TX-9 remote control. I am very happy with it. I have used it in Montana and in the east as well. It has plenty of volume and came with 100 sounds pre loaded. Some of nice features are the remote control and FOX BANG. After a shot is made the caller changes automatically to another series of calls. Mine is set on the default or pup squeals. This sound is great at stopping a retreating coyote and causing them to look back.

Went out today and called in a pair. I only dropped one. They came in to about 100 and circled around the point I was on. They must have gotten a wiff of me cause the next time I seen one, he was leaving, up the next ridge. Howled at him and got him to stop. Bad move on his part. WhenI got around to him He didn't look good at all. Mange.
At 338 yds the 22-250AI was dead on. 52 gr AMAX at 4000fps. Using a Fox Pro howl then some pup yelps.
