LRH could really use a CLOTHING FORUM where we can post about what clothing works, what's on sale, what's new, etc.

EX. Duluth Trading has excellent all synthetic winter pants with tough 100% nylon shells and polyester fleece lining. They are $89.50 and have numerous features not found on say, Rail Riders nylon fleece lined pants selling for $130. (Yes, $130.!)

I'm kind surprised this forum doesn't already exist here. All Backpacking forums have them and the Winter Trekking forum has one too.

There are people here that can speak from decades of experience so we don't have newbies going out in winter or rainy weather wearing cotton and getting hypothermia.

A CLOTHING FORUM is, to my mind a safety forum when you consider how important the right clothing is to the success of a hunt.

As a Nordic ski patroller I've had to escort several people back to the lodge who were dangerously cold and wet in cotton clothing from sweat and falling snow or falling IN snow.
As a hunter I've seen hunters come in miserably cold because they wore the wrong clothing and never carried extra clothing.
It seems they think getting sweaty in cotton "thermal" long johns is nothing to worry about in freezing weather - until they get chilled from those wet long johns. They never heard the dictum for winter wear, "COTTON KILLS".

Could be a good time to get a spare pair of those pants. Right now, 30% off, free shipping on orders above $100.

I've been wearing the medalist silver thread long underwear for 15 yrs. I use to use poly pro but that is a major scent trap. For boots in extreme weather I put 2 plastic shopping bags one on each foot then a wool sock then Arctic muck boots. The bags keep the insulation dry so your feet stay warm even if they are sweat wet. For pants I wear Beagal pants or bibs awesome and water resistant. Tops are mock T lj then fleece button down then sleeveless hoodie then which ever jacket the temps demand.
For work I would love to try the duluth stuff but cannot find any to try on. I wear carhartt bibs both insulated and uninsulated and jacket for work.
The newer cold gear and competitors long john gear is great for today's outdoors. What you put on top really is how much activity and how much movement.
If I'm sitting I will wear less hiking to then pull off the body layer and change it out to a dry one. If I'm tracking game for the day I usually will only have lj top and a pull over fleece under a wool jacket or jack shirt. I've been wearing the walker's game ear muffs for 3 seasons now. I prefer a ball cap when I hunt over a warm hat. The game ears provide very good sound detection/protection and you get the bonus of warm ears. I wish I started using them 20 years ago

Eric I noticed your suggestion from day one but I am planning some software upgrades later this winter. That complicates the timing of when I can make a decision on your request.

Your suggestion is consistent with the desire of me and Andy to increase the backcountry hiking, camping, hunting aspect of our website

We both appreciate your suggestion and also your overall contribution to this type of topic over the years. Please keep up the good work in that regard and be patient waiting for our decision

Do others involved in this particular thread believe that an increased emphasis on the overall Backcountry topic would be appreciated by the members

Warning! This thread is more than 8 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
