I have been reloading for many years now. I got a 300 Win Mag a few years back and getting into shooting it more. Last time at the range I had a couple of shells show a bright ring towards the shoulders (see pictures). My question is - is this a disaster waiting to happen? I usually thought cases separated near the head. But i'm Not sure about belted magnums.

Any experience or insight would be appreciated; before I do something stupid like reloading it again.

Thanks!

that's not a casehead separation , this mark is to high . maybe you have a dirty chamber , or dirty die rubbing the case ? your rub looks circular making me think it's a dirty chamber .

here are a few pics of casehead separation .

Thanks for the info. I too have separated cases as you have shown. And as you say it's pretty high up the case.

Time I start paying a little more attention to my cleaning process 😂.

looks to me like a ring in the chamber. Not enough to worry but I would say in the chamber. Judging by the carbon on your shoulders you also are not running much pressure.
