Building My own barrel vise

I have some material that will work for a vise but I need to know what size of hole to drill and if you use aluminum tubing split to grip the barrel . How thick would you make the bushing to get the best grip on the barrel . Will be planning on using this on Savage and Remmy barrels . All answers welcome and some pictorials of how you built yours would also be nice . I do have a machine shop at my disposal so anything can be done if needed ! gun)

Savage barrels do not need it.

Most remmy barrels are just under 1" OD.

I made mine 1.5", no need to turn the OD of the bar stock I make bushings from that way.
