Bluing Question

I have a friend who was wondering if it were possible to take his old steel framed pistol that has a blued finish and refinish it in stainless steel or if he removed the bluing, could he just leave it like that after polishing it up. Any opinions?

Stainless steel is not a finish, it is a type of metal. It could be Cerakoted to look like stainless. And Cerakoting will protect from rust.
