Anyone shooting a blaser? I have always wanted one but am a little skeptical. Any first hand experience good or bad?

My dad has three R8s and a R93. The fastest action I have used. Accuracy is 1/2Moa or better. I dont like the plastic stocks especially at those price points, Its flimsy and lacks the rigidity I look for. They if you are using a bipod the options well suck... Blosers magnetic bipod is "okay" but for $400 is WAY overpriced for the rigidity (this also plays into the stock). There is a front attachment which is even more flimsy. If you are looking for a off hand/ standing tripod gun that is easy to break down and travel the R8 is it. I turn to my more "traditional" rifles due to aftermarket support and I find the KISS works well for me. R93 in the video

I have owned Blaser rifles since 1999--as it was easy to get in lefty. I've owned probably 6 different R93 frames, 3 R8 frames and odd ducks like the D99, BBF 97, and k95. They are good rifles. They are not for tinkering they are as they come. If you don't like the trigger pull (although it is very nice and crisp) don't get it, if you don't like the barrel length or caliber (although they offer quite a array) don't get them. They tend to shoot factory very well they also tune ok. They are expensive my first R93 in the 1990s cost $1850 dollars--a lot of scratch back then--my last R8 I bought in 2012 was over 8k...Are they worth it? Well I will say it is the best traveling system made. It breaks down small and reassembles and it is dead on. They are accurate well with in a MOA standard--I had a 222, 30-06, and a 338 that were a lot better than that. If you want to buy a rifle, and it feed, work and you don't want a lot of "custom to you features" then it's a great buy...

Great rifles I've had one for 5 years, return to zero after break down is fantastic, it's much more robust than the design would seem. Trigger is superb, the factory stocks suck so dropped mine into a carbon fibre one, the de cocker whilst a great feature is not infallible if rushing, I shoot around 70-100 deer a year with it plus a trip or 2 a year overseas and it's usually what I take. You do need to buy into the whole "blaser concept" for it to be worth it, get several barrels, the case the cap & blaser boxer shorts without all that it's just another exspensive rifle

I picked up a r8 professional about two months ago in 300 mag hope to pick up a few more calibers in the near future. It's a great rifle for the traveling hunter the whole system is very well thought out. I had a r93 back
A few years ago and have regretted selling it. The 93 shot every thing I put through it it was hard to find a load that shot over a inch. My r8 300 win seems a little more finicky but I think I'm zeroing in on a load for it hopefully next range trip will produce good results. It's seems to like rl22 and I'm hoping to find a load with Barnes ttsx or tsxs. If anybody has a load that works in there r8 300 win for Barnes bullets I'm all ears.

I bought a Blaser r8 myself last year wirh the Grs laminated stock and a 308 match barrel. Had my gunsmith fabricate 2 custom barrels. A shilen blank in 6br 1-8" and a lilja in 6.5-06 with a 1-8" twist. With those adapters i got to premium barrels for the cost of 1 factory barrel. As you can see i modified a mcmillan tpr stock i had lying around to fit the r8 action. A little more solid option.

A blaser can be had for a decent price
1 time cost
1900 for stock which comes with trigger mechanism
535 for bolt housing
463 for bolt
1000 for barrel ready to shoot.

after this initial cost you can get a brand new caliber by adding a barrel for 1000 more. If it is a different bolt head then you have to spend another 463 for that bolt. Most people will only have to buy a 308 bolt head and a magnum bolt head.
