Berger VLD and a 7MM-08

I have a Remington model 7 in a youth configuration
with a 18" barrel chambered in 7MM-08 that my Girls
use for Coues Whitetail, Javelina, and Pronghorns.

I would like to try some Berger VLD's in it.
Do you guys think I would be better off with
140gr or 168gr for this application?

Does anyone have some load data they have used?

How big are your girls and what range are they going to shoot at?

They are 19 and 21 now and have been hunting since 10
They both have taken several animals at over 300yds with it.
As is so often the case they can out shoot most men.
They have both taken Cow Elk with it at close range
but use my model 700 in 7MM Rem. Mag for Bull Elk hunts
It has a break on it and recoil is not an issue.

I shoot a 7mm-08 in a 20"barreled Browning but do not use Bergers. I use TSX's.

Walt Berger would be more than helpful to send you some load data for using his bullets. Just send him an email explaining hunting what in what rifle, he will respond. He has helped myself and a few of my friends out in different calibers and rifles which he has come across thru his dealings with shooters. I'm sure he can give a load for Model 7. Good luck!

I too use 7mm08 and Barnes TSX (120gn)

The 140 VLD would be a good option, personally I think the 168 VLD would be too heavy for a 7MM08.

Use a 120 blistic tip in front of 49.5 grs H 414 and a cci br2 primmer.

Velocity will exceed 3000 ft/sec and recoill will be mild in the youth weight
rifle.

I have tried heaver bullets in the 7/08 and found that out to 600yrds the
120,s performed the best overall.

I like heaver bullets when I can use them but the 120's seam to be the
best for deer size game.

Just my opinion.

I will take a closer look at the 120 TSX.
Thinking they might be a choice for my
TC Contender handgun in 7-30 Waters also.

Quickload quotes 130grn SMK and 42grns of N140 in a lapua case Fed 210 std primer, in my 24inch pipe this shoots into the .1's on a good day and flattens Roe Deer at 2800f/ps. Or all the same and just use a 120 v-max for Varmint fun.

You're very welcome. 20 Roe bucks thought it was a great load this season, as l didn't have any stand back up and say "go on then give me another one of those!".
l used to run 46 grains and a Sako case in the 120 v-max (total fox carnage!!) but quick load said it was grossly over pressure (shame, it shot into the .5's at 200yrds). The current 120 v-max load runs at about 2950f/ps, and although not fast by any means it still shoots sub min/angle at 600yrds even in a stiff cross wind.
