Bedding Question?

I have a Remington 700 Police LTR chambered in .223. It is in the factory H-S stock. The rifle shoots crazy accurate. My question/issue is the that the barrel is not centered in the barrel channel and it is driving me nuts. Has anyone every bedded the action and recoil lug and have seen a decrease in accuracy? I am not concerned if there is an increase as it is already unbelieveable, but want to make sure that it doesn't open up the groups. I am thinking of having Kampfeld Customs do it....thoughts?

A proper bedding can't hurt and usually improves a rifles performance.

I don't think it could hurt if you did it right. I'd check the stock for contact and see what is causing the issue. You may need to relieve the stock in places to get it centered.

It's not uncommon for a HS stock to be slightly off center in regards to the barrel channel. I've seen it many times.

I think surfacing a bedding block will be less expensive.

I have seen a few come on the shop like that. Seems to be a common occurrence with that aluminum bedding block hs stocks. I personally wouldn't spend the money to fix it if it isn't broke. But thats just me. It sounds like your happy with the way it shoots so just shoot it till the barrel gives up then maybe have it corrected.

To answer your question, yes i have seen bedding not done correctly negatively impact accuracy. If done properly it should have no negative effects and possibly even make it shoot better. Those are great rifles I have one in 308 that is just a hammer.

It is accurate as possible. Factory Black Hills and I have yet to shoot a 3 shot group that I couldn't cover with a dime. 3-10 Swaro Z3. Have not shot any other ammo out of it yet as these shoot so well. The barrel not centered bothers me, however, the accuracy is outstanding.

I agree, if it's accurate, and not touching the barrel, just don't look at it.
