Has anyone here tried having a barrel rebored? I know JES does this service, and I imagine there are others out there as well.

I have a few 6.5mm and 270 barrels that are pretty burned up and I thought reboring to something like .338-.366"might be an interesting solution. They'd just be barrels for having fun or trying wildcats ideas, so I don't see a need to spend a bunch of money on new blanks.

I've not seen a barrel liner for a fast twist centerfire caliber. I imagine you will spend almost as much as just having it re-barreled. A 22LR liners is popular because they are able to salvage an original antique barrel to preserve more value in the rifle. Or maybe there isn't a replacement barrel for it.

I have had 2 very good experiences with reboring by Oregunsmithing, Pendelton, OR. They don't look good thru a borescope but they shoot! If I remember correctly a rebore must be at least +2 calibers.
That's good to hear, thanks. Can you tell me what the original barrels were, and what you had then bored out to?

It is best to contact JES directly to assess the feasibility of what you are trying to do.

If you included that statement, I would not have responded as such or never responded at all

I did state that in the original post.

I had JES re-bore a brand new Tikka 30-06 to 338-06. I understand that he won't do Tikkas anymore, which is a shame because that thing was awesome. It shot great, no complaints whatsoever. I'd do it again if re-boring what the answer to something I was trying to so.

Depending on the chambering I can't imagine reboring is gonna save you too much if anything over buying something like a McGowen barrel for like $300 plus chambering.

To me re boring makes the most sense when you want to keep the original barrel for other reasons, like keeping iron sights or the original shot out barrel on collectible rifles

Several years ago I had LeBounty re-bore and re-rifle an original Win M-70 30-06 barrel to .35 Whelen. It saved a barrel that a previous owner had let get pitted and made me a very accurate 0-300 yard big game rifle. It's still one of my favorites. So, I think re-boring can work out very well when you want to save an otherwise worn out or damaged barrel.

I just received a barrel the JES had rebored and chambered for me from 30.06 to 9.3x62 the bore looks very nice but the proof will be when my gunsmith finishes everything else I want done. I have spoken with many people the Jes had done work for and everyone is very happy with his work except one and he was more concerned with bashing Jess . yes his cost is 300.00 m/o only but I was not able to get a barrel for 300 that someone posted, remember it has to be chambered and installed. you will find it is difficult to get Jess on the phone but keep leaving messages and he does get back to you, if you go with a 35 Whelen or 9.3 x62 18-20 inch barrel is the way to go with CFE223 or Varget or Big Game powder. good luck
