Bang for your buck!

If you are to pick a cartridge right now in the .284 or .308 offerings and wanted the most bang for your buck (efficiency/hard hitting/hunting & steel) what are you choosing?

*** keeping "factory ammo or barrel life" out of the equation ***

Based on your criteria I'd be hard pressed to not build a 284 Winchester on a medium or long action. 180 class bullets at 2800 isn't hard to do. Plenty of speed to do any hunting or steel I would need or want and do it with brass that lasts 12-20 firings and 55ish grains of powder.

I did 7mm blaser mag improved. Essentially 7 sherman max

7mm SAUM is on my "some day" list. Medium or long action build. With the new 7mm PRC out now, that might win when that time comes if ADG, Peterson, or Lapua brass is available.

I did the 7 sherman max and am now building the wife a 7 prc. I'm a 284 fan boy.

That a tough one I own two 7mm l am building a 6.5x284 depending on what you hunt the 7mm or 30. Cal might be better.

I think it would have to be the 300 WSM on a long action. Kind of the sweet spot from my way of thinking.

Something that gets the job done and will outlast the others above? .280AI
Tried and true? .30-06
Don't need/want that much? .308

I'd start with 30.06 or 308. Barrel life is insane. 300wm or the wsm if I wanted more power in a 30.
280ai or 708ai with the 7mag or 7stw/28nosler if I wanted to play with the 195s I'd stay away from stuff where brass is harder to come by or the best powder is just a ghost

.30 = 300 RUM
These two cartridges allow you to go big when needed or you can dial them down as needed.

easier on the shoulder... 280 (possibly ai) or 7rem
a bit more thump... a 300win or 300rum
If cost is no issue I'd think 7rum or 338rum, but the 300 will hang close to the other two and seems more available
