I would like to introduce myself and my operation. My name is Dan Reardon and I am the owner of the Rocking R Ranch in Southwestern Colorado. We have decided to team up with LRH in order to promote our business and be supportive of the website that services your passion. I have made an agreement with LRH to auction off a fully guided elk hunt on my private ranch this year.

The hunt will take place during the 2nd Rifle Season. We are doing this in order to "jumpstart" our marketing for the year and thought it would be a fun and exciting thing to do. We are very excited to offer this to LRH members and sincerely hope that we can tailor our elk camp during 2nd Rifle Season to LRH friends and forum participants. The auction is without reserve and features a "Buy It Now" for $3800. The auction will run until 8:00 am CST on Monday June 16th or until the "Buy It Now" has been exercised.

The winner of this auction will enjoy a very exciting elk hunt as the ranch has a very impressive elk hunting history. I hope that other LRH members will consider joining the auction winner for an exciting hunt. We are offering discounts for LRH members who choose to book a hunt outside of the auction. I have no doubts that those that hunt the ranch this year will be motivated to come back and hunt with us again. The elk hunting is nothing short of fantastic.

Please feel free to check out our website www.rockingrhunting.com for more information on our elk hunts. Also, you can contact me at any time with questions.

To place a bid simply post a reply in this thread with your bid. Obviously your bid will need to be higher than the previous bid. Or post "Buy it now" if you want to take advantage of the $3800 price for this hunt.

Thank you.

Dan Reardon

Thank you everyone so far for the interest in the auction. I thought I would include a couple of pictures from this weekend. See below, sorry they are a little out of order.
I was able to spend a morning turkey hunting. Had a gobbler coming in pretty hot but a few of his hens busted me!
Anyways, the aspens and oaks don't yet have their leaves but the grass is greening up! We had a very good winter so the water is plentiful this year.
Please feel free to contact me or post on this thread with any questions regarding the auction.
Thanks.

One hunt?
If we always go hunting with a buddy or parent, does the second person pay full price?
Is there a starting bid?
Years of experience?
References?
Photos of the accomodations?

I know you already sold 1-2 hunts on another site but other than that there isn't any history of your company before 3 weeks ago from what I can tell.

Dr. Vette,

First off, thank you for the inquiry. You ask some very good questions and I will do my best to answer them on an open forum.

This auction is for one hunt. The winner will receive one guided hunt.
If the auction winner has a hunting partner or multiple buddies that want to hunt along with them, that will be considered a "group" and therefore qualify for a group discount. If a LRH member just wants to book a hunt during second season to hunt with the auction winner, a discount for being a LRH member will be given.
There is no starting bid.

Here is the deal with the ranch. I purchased the ranch and the outfitting business that went with it. I am friends with the previous owner/outfitter. In fact, he has agreed to help with the operation this year. Over half of my available hunts this year are booked by previous hunters on the ranch. I think that speaks volumes for the ranch. Also, a number of past hunters have agreed to provide references for the quality of hunt they have experienced in the past. I can not give that list to an open forum such as this because I am sure you can respect the privacy of these people. However, if a person is seriously thinking about buying the hunt or making a respectable bid, I can provide references. Again, please respect their privacy because I can't allow them to field phone call after phone call. I hope that makes sense.

I hope that answers your questions. I am trying to be as honest as possible.

Thank you again for the inquiry and the chance to talk about my operation.

I will open with $500.00

We also have an awesome ranch in NM that we lease (60,000 acres) We get some nice bulls off of it as well.

I love chasing these bulls.

Any chance to know the previous name of the operation?

And at least pictures of the accommodations updated on your website?

Thanks!

Does auction price include all fees like licenses lodging etc. What are the quarters and meals like? How do you hunt, vehicle, horse back spike camp?

Wyodog - all very good questions. The auction price DOES NOT include the colorado license fee for an elk over the counter tag. That is the responsibility of the hunter. The auction price DOES include all meals, lodging, guide services, field dressing, etc.

You should expect the meals to be very tasty. I have personally eaten many meals prepared by this year's camp cook and they are very good. He takes great pride in his food. Seriously, they are good. Expect the lodging to be very comfortable. My website has some information about the accommodations.

We hunt by either hiking or hunting from stands. We have A LOT of stands on the ranch if you like that style of hunting. Stand hunting has been very productive in the past. Guys who can shoot well are very successful. Hunters get to their stands either by foot or vehicle. We do not use ATV's because of the noise and horses are not used because you are into elk as soon as you step foot on the ranch.

Lastly, I have been asked numerous times for references. I have received multiple emails from past hunters in the last couple of days that have given me references. If people would like me to post them, I have no problem doing that. Just let me know on this thread. Of course, I will omit the names and contact info for the sake of their privacy.

Thanks again for the interest.

I would like to talk with someone who has hunted the ranch in the recent past. Also what is the size of the ranch and the trophy quality that can be expected during the second season?

(love that handle)
That's the way its done! You are into a screaming deal.
Dan won't even let me hunt there for $500,,,and I am HIS FATHER!

Where is your place in NM?

If you win, and I hope you do, don't forget your bear tag.

Pete

Thanks! It sounds like fun. I would actially give this to my wife. She also has a NM bull tag for this year. She loves hunting. We are near Raton.

Good for her!
I grew up in the Durango area. College at CSU. Dan went to school at UNM. NM, AZ and CO are our playgrounds. Know the Raton area well. If you ever run into Dick Pearse, tell him Pete said "Hello"; he was a classmate.

Thanks for the bid. Its our way of putting our money where our mouth is.

Pete

Sorry guys, I have been away from my computer for a few days.

Wyodog- PM Sent. I included contact information for a past hunter that is aware he will be called for a reference.
