Myself, and some friends are planning on putting in for tags this year, and will plan on it being completely DIY. Just looking for any good tips, if any of you have ever done this.

Also I know there are trophy units that require a couple of years to get drawn, but what are some other units that are easier to get drawn in that have some decent bucks and populations as well as public access?

Thanks for any help!

Since you didn't do any research and ask specific questions before you posted this thread, I'll give you info on where you can find it. Everyone here is very helpful if you do research on your own and ask pointed questions. My first WY trip was this last Oct and several forum members gave me information that helped in choosing my unit and finding animals in the unit I drew.

Start with the state's game and fish website that you want to hunt in. Most western states have very good information available for out of state hunters. You can find draw odds, amounts of public land in each unit, etc etc

You can also find tons of information on this site. You need to be doing your research probably 3-4 months ago in order to meet the draw submittal dates.

Believe it or not, I have done plenty of research on my own, and have been working on it for alot longer than the last 3-4 months. I am quite farmiliar with Units 91-93 which are trophy units, and was looking for a bit of info on units that dont take 4 yrs to draw. What kind of pointed specific questions would you like me to ask?

I lived in Wyoming for ten years and took some nice antelope. I have one still with me that just missed Boone & Crockett and missed one that would have gone well up in the book. There are some very big ones around the Casper area as well as in the Red Desert area but you have to pay attention to the private lands around Casper as some areas are almost a checker board of public/private land that is not marked. You have got to get the good BLM & USGS Topographic maps. I hope you have a great hunt!

The biggest ones I killed were North West of Casper on Public Land by the way.

The draw odds are posted on the WY game and fish website so anyone can access that. It goes back several years so you can see which units typically draw with no or fewer preference points.

Make sure you get a GPS and chip....It's basically invaluable.

Yep, we can give you all kinds of information on a particular unit AFTER you've done all the work in the odds lists, etc., but very seldom will people just start naming units if it looks like you're just trolling! Do you have any PPs, as it looks like you don't? If you don't, you are limited to units that did not take any PPs in the draw to get a tag. Look at that first in the draw odds tables and go from there!

And your already asking for help before you even get started so you might as well tell us the plan and let us pick it apart:D:D

If you are just aquireing points it matters little what you do as long as you pick an area you will not draw.
If however you want to aquire points and hunt this year than a lot of planning is in the works. Its a good idea to put a long odds draw down for your first choice and then and easy draw for your second. That way you can get some goat hunting under your belt so you dont shoot the first dink you see when you do draw a point tag. You aquire a point and hunt:cool:
I for one aint gonna tell you what areas to look for as there are many but I would steer you clear of a bad choice....Depending on your priorities.
