ALLIANT RELODER 23

I now will give up some fps or, dare say, accuracy for temperature stability. I came to this point a few years ago. I am excited to revisit RL23. The only reason that I did was due to multiple posts on this site. My prior 280ai hunting load was RL 26 and the 168 Berger. Got a new rifle and first tried the 175 Elite Hunter and RL 23.View attachment 211011
Dang good accuracy! What's your velocity with that load? I use the same bullets and powder in my .284 and it's deadly!

2840 fps. Peterson Brass. Just about max for the brass. 24" barrel 1gr below Berger max load data.
What's your charge weight? I'm also using Peterson brass and in my 26" barrel I'm getting 2850fps with 53.5gr of RL23 and the 175 Elite Hunter. My barrel sped up and my old load was 54.2 and was also 2850fps. The .280 Ackley and .284 Win with a long throat are very very close in performance I'd say.

58gr.

The .284 Win case capacity = 66.2 gr water
.30-06 case capacity = 68 gr water
.280 Rem case capacity = 68 gr water
.280 A/I case capacity = 73 gr water
7mm SAUM case capacity = 73 gr water
The .280 AI should be more like the 7mm SAUM and considerably more than the .284 Wim. Also, more recoil.

The .284 case is more efficient and the SAUM case is a lot more efficient than the .280 Ackley and the same case capacity. My .284 with the Norma Match throat runs at the same speed or within 50fps of a .280 Ackley with the same powder and bullets. The .284 is a wonderful cartridge when chambered with a long throat for modern, high BC bullets.
