ok i am building a 7mm stw and am wondering some good loads thinking h1000 since i have 20 lbs of it and VLDs or Amax bullets 1 in 9 twist
Matt

H1000 ok for lighter bullets, but for the 180 VLDs, the consensus leans toward a slower powder; specifically, Retumbo.

BTW, that load (83gr/H1000/Hornady 175 bullet) listed on Reloadersnest seems mighty hot.

With H-1000 and 140-150gr bullets you can start at 80.0grs and work your way up.I took mine up to 84.0grs and a friend told me 82.0grs worked best for him, another said 86.0grs was what he loaded,so you see you have some room to work with.Every rifle is different so that is why you have to work your way up.Mine shoots best with 80.0grs of either Winchester WXR or Reloader-22.

Sorry my post was not helpful. Did not read that you had 20# of H1000. H1000 will be a great powder in a 7 STW.

I use 82 grn H-1000 with 140 grn Accubonds and 140 grn Berger VLD. These are great accurate rounds.

Shooting out of a 24" varmint taper Savage 112

My buddy and I each have STW's, and use retumbo in each.

With the 180 Berger VLD my gun likes 76 grains shooting 2960fps (28" Barrel). The other gun likes 75 grains in a 26" Tube. Never tried the H1000, as I always planned on using the 180 bullets from the begining.

I R using 81 gr of H-1000 for very good goups under .300 at 100 yards with the 162 Hornady BTM. For hunting I use the 160 Barnes TSX with the same powder charge. My rifle does not like the Bergers or Accubonds with the H-1000, I also have several pounds.

Had decent results with 168 VLD over 79.0 of H1000. As always start below and work up.

I missed this one in my loading records the other day 180 gr. Berger, 75 grains of H-1000, .620. Start down a couple with this one, mine has a veryyyyyy long throat

88.5 grs. H1000 3436 FPS Avg. 9 SD 140 Gr. Barnes TTSX/hBN 3.662" COAL to fit DBM 24" barrel (25.5" w/muzzle brake) 1/2" 3 shot groups.

One more thing, stay with Hodgdon Extreme Powders like H1000 if you shoot in cold or hot temperatures as they are very stable.
