I am interested in a 7mm PRC as a replacement for my old girl 7mm Rem Mag.

I was looking for all the information about that caliber (pros and cons) before deciding to buy a rifle.

However, I came across information on the Hornady website that their 175 gr ELD-X factory ammunition achieves a velocity of 3000fps in 24" barrel.

I have a 7mm RM, 26" barrel, and a CED M2 and have years of experience making ammo for my big seven using 130gn to 175gn grains. I could not achieve a velocity of 3000 fps with 175 gn no matter what I tried with all the powders that were advised for 7mm.

My question is whether the speed mentioned by Hornady is realistic or is it a bait for potential buyers.

Thank you

Barrel length and powder choice makes that speed happen. Do a search and I think you'll find more guys than not can't make that happen especially in factory ammunition

I had the opportunity to purchase European powder RS 70 and RS 76 from the Swiss manufacturer ReloadSwiss.
Does anyone have experience with these powders and what would you recommend. Thank you.

I've seen reports of the factory ammo being a little slower than advertised. However Hogdon shows a few powders that will get 3000 or very close to it in a 24" barrel.

Use the advances search and you will find a years worth of daily reading on the 7prc. Below this thread are several to start with.

I'm sorry I didn't reply until now and I know I had to.
I have a big (for me) health problem.
I am waiting for the hospital to call me because I have to be operated on, that is, they have to completely replace my left hip.
I expect a call from the hospital in 2-3 days. I used these last few days for the last doctor's examinations and interviews, so I had neither the time nor the will to sit and write on the laptop.
Regardless of my problems, your attention to me and my question encourages me and makes me proud to be a member off long range hunting

Also thanks to everyone for their participation and advice.

22 inch Proof Carbon 1-8 twist. Hornady factory 175 ELDX at 2885. Factory 180 ELDM @2830. Handload with H1000 using 180 ELDM 2910. Very low ES.
My factory 175 ELD-Xs trued out at ~2900-2910 fps out of my 22" Proof barrel, but my CED M2 chrony readings were low 2800s. What's your grain weight with the H1000? I'm only getting upper 2700s with my loads up to 67.3gr, and perhaps my chrony is not reading accurately. I've ladder loaded from 67.1 up to 68gr, and am going to fire some off in a few minutes at my neighbor's range using his Oehler chrony to see what's up.
