7mm PRC load

I have been looking for a load for a Christensen Arms Ridgeline FFT I recently won in a raffle in 7mm PRC The rifle has a 22" barrel and is crazy light. I mounted a VX5 HD 3 x 15x44 wind plex scope. I also have a Q Trash Pand suppressor on this rifle.

I acquired some Peterson Brass. I am not a fan of the fragmenting rounds, so I tried the 160 Accubond, partition and the 154 Hornady Interlock. I tried H-1000 and RL 25. Nothing seemed to work. I tried the 180 Hornady factory ELDM and the 175 ELDX. The pressures were very high with the factory 180g ELDM even blowing one primer out of the case. The 175 ELDX shot ok, but not what I hoped for.

I talked to a guy at the range and he convinced me to try n565. I switched to the 140g Accubond with n565, Peterson Brass, F215 primers. I shot a ladder group up to 74.5 grains and saw slight pressure signs, but the accuracy was good….5-.75 MOA.

Velocity was a little over 3200 at 74.5g, but when I backed off to 73.5g velocities fell to 3168 for a 12 shot average with 35 fps extreme spread.

Any report on your experience with H4831 with the 7PRC? I have a bunch of it.

None personally.
But I suspect with a 140 it will get good enough speed. Used plenty in 7RM/140-150 grs and 7ss/140's. It's pretty rare for it to let a man down.
The little 7ss was around 3230 at 63.7grs

My 7PRC seems to prefer 210's with several powders. N565 and 568.

N560 might be a better powder for light bullets. Have you tried different primers ?

You could give hammer bullets a shot, pun intended.

My buddy is running h1000 in his PRC.

I've found H1000 to work well with 175-180gr bullets in my 26" Bartlein, 8 twist. Attaining 3,000fps was easy with no signs of pressure. H4831 looks good with 160-168 class bullets. I'm just shy of 3,200fps with the 162gr bullets. There may be room for growth but that really doesn't interest me.

FWIW - my 7PRC would not shoot the Hornady 180 ELD-M bullets but seems to group with their 162 E-M bullets.

I have only used Peterson brass and Fed 215M primers so far. I'll give the Fed 210M primers a go next week.

Think what you want about Berger bullets. They are extremely accurate and kill with authority. 80% of my hunting loads are using Bergers.

Think what you want about Berger bullets. They are extremely accurate and kill with authority. 80% of my hunting loads are using Bergers.

N560 might be a better powder for light bullets. Have you tried different primers ?

No. Just the F215. I'm interested in the suggestion to use F210.

I also see a slight accuracy and velocity improvement using previously fired brass.

Try some rl-26 if you have any or retumbo or n-560 I use all of these in all of my 7PRC s I'm shooting a 175 Berger at 3005 FPS. With rl-26. With a 23" barrel the 7 Prc is designed for heavy bullets good luck on it

I only have 1.3 lbs of RL 26. Wish I would have bought 20 lbs, because I have several rifles that love that powder. I have Retumbo and n560. Thanks for the tip.
