Hey Guys , has any body confirmed the bc on the 7mm 180 eldm ? They say 0.796 g1 but I just don't see it. I have a few of them and a 28 that just got done so I'm debating on trying to make those my bullet of choice .
Looking at them I could see 0.700 but 0.796 seems like a lot.
Thanks

Left to right with advertised BC is
175 eldx G1 0.689
180 eldm G1 0.796
180 vldh G1 0.673
175 EH G1 0.656

I apologize as I do not have the answer to your question, but I do suggest using G7 with low drag boattail type bullets. G1 is typically used with flat based bullets. Also, Hornady's 4DOF works well with their bullets. Good luck with your 28

Oh yes I do use G7 when I'm out shooting.

I ran 24 of them past my LabRadar and used the tracking files to calculate the B.C.

7 Rem Mag, X-Caliber bbl, 1:8 5R, 26", ~2850 - 2950 fps

The average was 0.729 G1 for 24 recorded shots. Max = 0.773, Min = 0.684

One caveat. My rifle was causing them to blow up in flight about 1 in 10 shots, so it's plausible the B.C. values I got might be a little off, and have more variation, since the bullets were clearly unhappy in some way or another.

I was pretty bummed about the detonations, as they shot EXTREMELY well when they did make it to the target. Hornady gave me a free box of 175 ELDX in compensation though, and those work really well for me too, with an ~0.700 G1 B.C.

What's your barrel looking like the first few inches beyond the throat I wonder?
Do you have a high round count?
I've heard about the blowups but with the 500 or so I've shot its never happened.

Hornady gives multiple BC's for that bullet, depending on barrel twist rate and speed. Printed BC's (for all bullets) seem more like a starting point than an absolute.

Their phone app is pretty nice for their bullets.

Tested the ELDMs back when she was pretty much new. I have a bore scope, and the barrel was smooth as a babies butt when I got it.

No real explanation for the problem. Perhaps just a bad box of bullets?

Never tried them again since the 175 ELDX grouped nearly as well, is a "hunting design", and carried all the freight I needed out to the ranges I can hit a pie plate. Also, this was about 2 years back when 7mm projectiles were harder to find than unicorn tears...

That said, the next 7mm barrel I get will definitely get a chance to redeem them. The accuracy and B.C. is near enough witchcraft for the 7mm class.
