I'm rebarrelling my 7-08. Right now I get 2784fps from 47.5gr of Win 760 and 140gr. bullets. This is with a 20" barrel. This velocity matches the hornady manual with test data coming from a 24". If anyone has experience with this cartridge in barrel lengths from 20"-26" I would be Interested in velocity results.

Also I was thinking 9 twist, I dont want to shoot anything over 140gr bullets. Shilens website says 12 twist to 140 gr. Is this running right on the edge or will it stabilize.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Go with the 1 in 9 and it will shoot everything from 90grs to 190 grs.

I have built quit a few 7/08s for friends and the 20'' loses only about 30 ft/sec to a 24''

An 18.5'' barrel gives up about15 ft/sec to the 20'' barrel . So I recomend a 20'' to 22''
barrel for optimum performance.

The one I now have has a 22'' 1 in 9 HBRT Lilja and I use the 120gr ballistic tip @3015 ft/sec
and the best 100yard group to date is 5 shots for a .053 group.

Thanks for the advise, .053 5hots at 100. Can you tell me more about your rifle, action work stock ect. I would love to wind up with something that came even close to that.

I'm building on a A-bolt action, laminate thumbhole stock, #5.5 medium varmint shilen barrel handlapped. Hopefully the A-bolt is up to the task I never hear of anyone building on them.
