I bought some 151s and realized I have a LOT of room left to seat 170s. I'm looking to save a heap of time and money in load dev. Any experienced help is greatly appreciated. Powders I have on hand:
  • Retumbo
  • H1000
  • H4350
  • Varget
  • RL 23
  • H4831SC
Thanks,
e

Just saw this thread as I'm looking for info on the 170's. I'm running the 151's with 69 grains of H1000, seated at 3.100 OAL and getting 3040 fps with tiny groups. Shot them at the same OAL with 64.0 of RL23 and got 3110 fps with es of 12, also tiny groups. Did you find a load for the 170's?

With virgin ADG brass and 215's, 62 grains had very low es and a velocity of 2980s. A few cases had a small swipe though, so I need to review my data again. Oddly, my H1000 loads were very slow, 2750ish, and had pressure signs. Might be a virgin brass thing.
I'll re-look at it when the barrel is broken in and the brass is all fireformed.

In my 7Max I'm shooting the Berger 180 Hybrid with 63.2 gr. RL-23 @ .060" off. ES-4 SD-2.2, grouping average of mid 2's @ 100 and 1.2" at 400 with 5 shots ES-6 SD-2.7.
The RL-23 was very consistent with the 180 hybrid @ 3010 fps in 26" 8.5 Twist
Bartlein.

The only other bullet I tried was a 162 Amax with 62.0 gr IMR 7828. It was off .030" with 3 to 5 ES and low 3's.

I would have compared with Retumbo except I was getting low. My 7STW was running 180 hybrid @ 3025 with Retumbo, so not much difference.

Is this with the 151 or 170 Cayuga? Which powder got you to 2980 fps?

3.090. Only did pressure testing with the 170.
151's are a jagged hole at 100. Haven't validated at range
10-4, thanks. The 151's were grouping sub 0.5 moa for me out to 600 yards, very little vertical, the horizontal was likely wind. Stated BC was right on with shot drops. Hoping I can get the 170's up to 2900 fps or more and they shoot as good as the 151's.
