Do any of you have experience with a 6 Creedmoor on whitetails at longer ranges....say 500-600yd? I am looking at a Springfield Waypoint to use for both coyote hunting and deer hunting but was curious on the capability of the cartridge on large whitetails at longer ranges. I would likely load either the 88 or 101gr Hammer Hunters and use them for both coyotes and whitetails.

Tough to beat . With 105 - 115 grain bullets they are a Very good hunting cartridge . Have dropped mule deer in their tracks at 800 yards with 115 Berger and lots of whiteys in the 4-600 yard range .

There is no doubt whatsoever that the 6mm Creedmoor is fully capable of killing whitetail deer. Even the 6x47 Lapua can do a superb job when limits are observed.

Part of your investigation of these bullets and loads is to discover the approximate yardages where the bullets will perform. Two things to consider briefly:

Wind and 6mm bullets no matter how heavy the 6mm bullets. I love to shoot the 6mm Creedmoor for hunting but I try to keep my distances shorter and not where high winds might be a factor.

Energy on target might prove to dissuade you from this thinking. I ran some quick numbers based on my shooting notes and once again found that 500-600 yards is the limit when using my Hornady 110 gr. A-Tips at top end velocities.

Personally, I would consider something in the 6.5mm bullets and cartridges.

Enjoy the process!

:)

Worked pretty well at 500 yards for a first time Hunterđź‘Ť

It's nothing more than a hot-rod 243 win, which has arguably been the long time running champ of the white tail world. It should be a fantastic whitetail cartridge.
Constantly amazing to me how folks will say .243 is an excellent round but 6mm isn't suitable or vis versa. Same for .260, .270 (ever hear of Jack O'Connor) or .280.

It's the same as the 243 and the 243 has been killing white tails for almost 70 years just fine. So it will work.

Never used the hammer bullets but the 80gr Speer hot core and 95gr sst from my 243's have killed a truck load of deer and coyotes over the years. I've dropped plenty of them at 3-350yds, 400 plus is harder to come by in my neck of the woods. The creed will sling those bullets a bit faster and I'm wanting the exact same rifle to shoot suppressed myself. I've got some 105 and 115vld stuck back for it but I'll have to check into those hammers I've been impressed with the info I've found so far.

Go for it - I run one with 115 Bergers and it works great on lighter skinned game. Antelope, Whiteys, and maybe a Muley or two if you have a mind. Good BC's, great velocities, and it is like a grenade inside when it hits.

This Antelope was taken at 680 and it took one step and was down.

108eldm is baaaad medicine on deer sized game.
Would you prefer the 108 ELDm over the 103 ELDx for whitetails? Also, where would the 115 VLD or 105 VLD stack up in the discussion on large whitetails through a 6 Creed?

I'm going to try some 108 ELDm factory ammo to start with, but will likely reload in the long run. I kind of had my heart set on using a mono bullet like the Barnes LRX or Hammr, but I'm seeing a lot of positive feedback on those other bullets I mentioned so want to keep an open mind.
