6.8 SPC

I shoot several AR's in 6.8 SPC. Currently a 12.5" and a 16". Both have ARP barrels. I settled on AA2200 as my go to powder for 90gr Speer Gold Dots and 95gr Barnes TTSX's. I have shot allot of coyotes and Rockchucks with my 12.5" since it's always banging around in a truck with me. I smoked a decent Muley ( Weak a_s fronts on his left side) with my 16". Shot was about 260 yards, got a complete pass through.

AR Performance barrels have always shot well. I have two in 6.8 SPC and a few others. 6.5x6.8 SPC, .224 Predator (.22 Grendel) .

I know this is an older thread. I started load development on my new 6.8 yesterday with Barnes 85 gr TSX. I tested A-2200, A-1680, and N-120.
A-2200 wasnt all that good and A-1680 was abismal with es 100-200 fps and groups of 3". Worst es numbers ive seen in 50+ years of handloading.
N-120 shot great with 3/4" group and es in single digits to low teens. This was unfired Starline brass so things may get better in the next round. Shoulders have been bumped .003 now but brass hs dimension from unfired to fired stretched out .009. An interesting cartridge and I love a challenge

Great little round and very underrated for what it is. I would like to pick up a bolt gun in 400 land and rebarrel it. Pretty sure they share the same boltface

I shoot 110 Vmax with 25gr CFE Black with easy half inch groups. 130 BT with Reloader 10 is good as well with some of the best groups ever. been playing with Speer gold dots as well both 95gr and 115gr with the same powders with great results. My gun is a Rem 700 LTR. Only change I made was a Trigger Tech. One of my favorite guns with lots of potential. They only bullets that never grouped well in it was the Hornady GMX bullets. I tried factory and reloads could never get it to shoot under an inch and usually it was three inch groups with that bullet.

They do share the same bolt face.

Savage trail hunter in 400 legend. Swapped in a 18" blackstone arms ar perf 6.8 barrel, and rdy to go. Mag works too. With h322, 120 sst at 2480, half moa. Will work on more loads in the future.

I'll be doing more testing. I dont think my 12 twist would shoot the heavy bullets well.

It grouped 120sst, 90gr gd, and 115 gd factory ammo at 1 moa. Want to test some 90gr hammers, and a assortment of 130s. If the 115gds do well, those will be my load as long as my supply works.

Do you have a fast swist on the barrel? Or standard 1-10

Barrel is standard 1 in 11. Would have rather had a 1 in 10. Have alot invested in the 270 win. Also the 6.8. So, testing will be for stuff I have on hand.

seems slow as the 2 ar's i have use a 10. i limit weights to 115's.

I have one of the Ruger Compact Hawkeye's in 6.8. It's wicked with Barnes TSX 85 and X-terminator powder. It also shoots the Hornady 100 SP very well with IMR4198.

Was able to snag one of those from buds about 6 to 7 yrs ago. Nice little rifle, mine likes cavity back 105gr with aa2200.

From what I can find out, 11 is about the most popular and "normal" twist. 10 is being used more and more for the heavy bullets. I dont mind the 12 because it will handle the weights I will be shooting just fine.
