6.5x47mm

Well, I have this extra 6.5mm barrel lying around and was planning on using it for my 6.5-.284 when that barrel burned out but this little jewell is making me look twice. It is of course the new 6.5x47. It is so new there's hardly any load data but initial reports claim a 140 bullet at 2900 from a 28" barrel (I will have to see that to believe it). 129's are supposed to get 3100. It has a nice shape and a good long neck and uses small rifle primers combined with a small flash hole.

It will be interesting to see the wildcatted 6mmx47 performance which is simply necked down .The case is not quite as big as a 6xc or 6-250 AI but it is bigger than the 6br by about 10 grains useable powder space. It should have just about the perfect muscle to push the 115 dtac bullets or be 150 to 200 fps faster than the 6br improved with 105's.

I applaud Lapua for making a "smaller" case in the new world of huge overbore monsters and for giving it a long neck and small pocket. It will be very fun to see what progresses from this little case.

Gonna re-use an old 6.5-284 barrel myself...

Spec'ing a reamer for it now.

Loaded rounds run 0.2900 - .2906" at the neck with 142/123Sc/123SMK So I'm thinking .293 for a no-turn nk.

I have some average base dims too...need to get my notes together.

Just figured out OAL requirements for it last night to get the right freebore.

Unfortunately it won't be ideal to get a 142 and 123SMK to work in the same chamber, but I may try it.

with the 142 seated at the absolute bottom of the neck, the 123SMK is about .120 ABOVE the N/S junction.

the 123 scenar is only about 40thou above.

the 123SMK is a good bit smaller than the scenar, but sleek and slick.

Thinking I'll start with perfect seating for the 123 scenar, and if i can't get the 123's to work, punch the freebore 40-50thou and the 142 will fit perfect.

the 6x47 is doing all we thought it would a year ago...easily getting 3100 accurately in a BR platform with the 105/6/7 bullets...and shooting well at 1K /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Judging by the successes with the 6mm version, 3100 should be feasible with a 123 scenar in the 6.5 version...

You planning to run solely 142's or more towards the 123?

The reamer the cartridge in my photo was set up for was the 123 scenar but the 6mm version was set up for the 115 Berger which is more tempting....hmmm 6mm or 6.5, 6mm or 6.5. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I guess since both reamers are here, I'll just have to do both!

Though I don't plan to waste time on the 115 berger...too much bad juju

115 dtac, 107SMK, 106CR, 105scenar -- 3200 is achievable with the lighter ones...

Aside from the bearing surface variation, what would make you say this? Have you seen it be finicky or something? I have yet to shoot this particular bullet.

RE: 115berg - yes...have heard of many people trying them and only getting frustrated...I personally will not waste my time when the 6mm gets built.

no 95's that is with the 106CR and R15 to be exact, but I'm sure the 105 and 107 would follow suit.
