Any of the WSM/SAUM should work in that length depending on your mag box.
Are you looking to not reload for any/shoot factory only? If that is the case, find what ammo source you are looking to use and see what they have enough supply. That may help.
Are you wanting to stay with a 6.5, if so and you mag box will allow 3" internal, 6.5 PRC is the easy button.
7WSM 2.86" OAL 300 WSM 2.9" OAL according to Berger load data.

I was looking at 6.5 prc and 7wsm just because of the amount of factory ammo they have, which I might still have a load worked up. I'm not well versed in the name of guns, but so either would require a new barrel right? And depending on magbox size would be the deciding factor on action?

You might have enough left on the shank to go 6.5 prc.other wise it's a new barrel and 7 wsm factory ammo would be my last choice.

There might be places that will load you some custom ammo. 6.5SS is a great round. I have two of them. Had two other before that.
6.5PRC is the easy choice. New barrel will set you back about $800-1500+ depending on what all you want.
7SAUM if you want to step up in caliber.
Or you could sell the entire rifle and buy a new/used one in a different chambering. Might break even that way.

Yes you would need to re-barrel.
Your mag box should support any of the Winchester Short Mags or the Remington Short Action Ultra Mags. The 6.5 PRC is about 2.95" OAL.
Agree with Lance. Sell it, it is a good looking rifle. Shouldn't last long.

You would have to cut the entire length of the 6.5SS body off. The PRC case is not as fat.

As Lance said the prc case is not as fat as the ss, I would doubt you could rechamber to prc with out a new barrel. I loved my ss I know Lance still has one I also built my step dad one. Mine finally gave it up at 1500 rounds.
Thanks, it's a pin driver for sure. Only set back I'm really not a fan of is getting brass. From the research I've done it either has to be fire formed or you can buy them (expensive when I looked) from the Sherman page. Either looking to sell or change the barrel out just looking for something where rounds are a little more accessible. I don't end up shooting it just because of the brass thing
Did you buy brass from Sherman site or fire form your brass? That's the biggest turn off for me was the brass but it's an awesome guys otherwise

Bought brass from Sherman. I have 6 Sherman chamberings as well speak. I think Lance has that plus some. The ss line the max line and the prc improved line are by far the easiest. In my opinion.
I'm pretty sure all I would need is a die and reamer I know a few guys who reload but idk might mess around with the idea then have to see which ones I need and price that out too if I keep it I was looking at changing powders because right now I think they're loaded with RL26 which I heard is really temperature biased so idk lol
On to my next question, they have both 6.5 SS dies and 6.5 SS/B dies and they said the die is supposed to make brass last longer I'm a little confused on that but k was hoping I could get some clarification. I messaged the people at Sherman wildcat as well
