Backstory:
When my wife picks out here hunting rifles, I narrow down some suitable cartridges and then she picks out the rifle that best fits her in one of those cartridges. I try to get her involved in the cartridge selection, but she really doesn't care as long as it will dispatch it's intended game animal.
So, when we started elk hunting the minimum cartridge I would let her walk into the woods with is a 6.5 PRC. She went to the store and picked out a Christensen Mesa and she loves the rifle. However, it is a bit heavy for her to haul around all day (she does it, but I can tell it tires her out).
Question:
Christensen just released the Mesa FFT which is over a pound lighter, but it only has a 20 inch barrel. I've never seen a 6.5 PRC with such a short barrel? Does anyone have any experiences with that short of a barrel in the PRC? How much velocity are we loosing, I'm estimating about 200FPS which is substantial.
