Im in the process of mounting a 6.5-20 Zeiss on my 300 WinMag model 70. This IS NOT a cannon I'll use on close-up prairie dogs or the like and 1000 yard shot are out too...so am I in the ball park for a scope for the ear buster?

No way is this too much. Great caliber and scope.

With all do respect I disagree on the scope. If memory serves me correctly the scope is a 1 in. tube with a total of 45 MOA elevation so I was not even able to run a 20 MOA cant on mine. The glass is outstanding but I was not impressed with Zeiss. I sent another Zeiss in to have it worked on bc it did not track it took 29 weeks to get back to me. I sold off all my Zeiss optics- even though I think they make a great rangefinder.

Good luck to you

I have no problems with my other 6.5-20's shooting as far as I can ever see. I run 20 or 15 MOA rails under all of mine with the exception of my 22-250 cause I dont expect to be shooting it far enough to need a rail under the 18X Leupold.

One Zeiss I sent in to have the reticle changed and it only took them 8 weeks for mine...???

I like Zeiss. Have one of the 4.5-14 RZ800s. Holds zero, RZ800 works for medium range and it even dials accurately. Plus, I don't think you can beat the glass in that price range.

As long as your not still hunting in the woods for whitetails or something. 6.5-20 is probably a good call.

Lucky you!!! I was told the same time frame as well. I even met Karen Bookout from Zeiss who is "the man" as far as North American repair/customer service goes at SHOT (she gave me her card and direct line) and I still had to wait the 29 weeks. One excuse after the other... bad weather, etc... There is no "zero stop" type set up on it... it was a good scope for the money but I just had bad luck with mine (I guess...?) and even a worse customer service experience.
I like the 4.5x -14x better but that doesn't matter now.

BergerBoy, I am sorry you had a problem with your scope. I agree that the NXS is the way to go, however, for $600 you can not beat it. As far as the "zero stop" get an O ring hose washer at the hardware store. Put it under the turret and you are good to go.

Thanks for the info on the washer. I agree - for the cash it's hard to beat, very hard. It has some of the best glass I have seen at any price range. Excellent clarity.

However, customer service is paramount to me. I know Zeiss makes great optics... that was not my experience but I hope ALL of you have better luck with them than I did.

Thanks:cool:

It is a shame that customer service has gone in the toilet. I agree with you as to how important it is. Sad that all company's do not realize what a negative affect it can have on their business.
