I have a problem. :) I have a lot of new .357 Maximum brass that I bought accidentally a long time ago. Or maybe I was going to buy one, idk. I've been shooting a Marlin lever action in .357 and it made me wonder how hard it would be to find a barrel chambered in .357 Maximum for my last Aero Solus short action. I think the bolt head is for .223 and that's too small. Or I could look for a doner rifle and do a prefit barrel if I could get one chambered in .357 Maximum. Then there's the "what are you going to do with it?" question that doesn't need and answer.

Anyone else ever build a rifle to work with the brass they have on hand 👀 :p

You can rebarrel or rechanber the 1894 to 357 Maximum, but to work properly, the action and feed will need some modification. Even then, a loaded 357 Max round may not properly eject. Also, the 357 Maximum typically runs at higher pressures than the 357 mag.

As for your question about building or modifying a rifle for brass I had, the answer is no, but I have built and/or purchased a firearm for dies I had become the owner of.

357max uses a ppc sized bolt face. I'm eventually going to get around to chambering one for myself. I have a BF arms falling block pistol in 7supermag which is based on the 357max. I have a 14" piece of .357 bartlein barrel. Its a pretty fast twist, much faster than saami spec. But I think it would be a neat rig when its all done.

Do you plan on using a magazine or single shot? I'd bet getting a rimmed case like that to feed would take some tinkering.

I was thinking bolt gun and I don't mind single shot loading. My .338 is like that and some of my mag feed rifles I still feed single shot. Come to think of it, when the can is on the lever gun (.357) I just single feed it.

You can always go Contender or Encore especially if you already have a frame. If not you probably need one….of each anyway. You could do either a pistol or rifle.

A contender sounds really good for you. I have a custom mgm 14"er myself. Pm me first to see if I have interest if you decide to just get rid of the brass.

My buddy wanted a break action 357max, so I helped his wife pick up a Henry H15 and had it reamed to Max. There are a bunch of great 357max Encore barrels out there too, it ended up being a really fun cartridge to shoot and reload for. Now he has a simple gun that can shoot 38/357/max.

I feel like someone on this thread should set up a GoFundMe for my rifle addiction. Not dropping any names (A contender sounds really good for you) or anything. 👀 That's what I decided to do. Pick up TC Encore / Pro Hunter frame and a 16.5" barrel.

As much as ARC this, ARC that irritates me I think I'll put the action I have to use as a 6 ARC. Maybe :) If I set the shoulder back and change the shoulder angle by .1 degree (not the chamber, the brass) does that mean I can market it as a 6 Mike? Or even better a 6 Mike Mike Mike.

Back to being serious, I appreciate the suggestions. The answer was the easy button and I've been needing a Contender for a long time.
