I will be shooting a .35 Whelen Remington Classic 700 if I draw a bull elk tag in Oregon this season. My hunting partner and I have a solid chance with our preference points. Working up a load with Sierra's 225 grain spitzer over CFE 223 powder. I have killed moose and elk with Speer's Hot-Cor 250 grain.

My semi-custom 35 Whelen 700 classic shoots 225 partitions or 225 TBBC handloads into nice groups. Hits really hard and has anchored many, many elk, bear, deer.
Good luck on the draw and hunt 🍻

Curious as to what the odds are that you'll draw?

The way the draw works in Oregon my partner and I have a total of 12 preference points. They average your points on a group application. That means we have 6 preference points. In the unit we applied for there are 15 non resident bull elk tags. According to ODFW draw odds data we have a decent chance of drawing a tag. (75%).

...if the box doesn't say ' PARTITION ' on it, it hain't sitting on top of my big game casings....simple enough.

Yeah I'll take those odds

My CVA Scout shoots 250 gr Hornady FTXs super accurate.

Love my 35W's. Waiting on a barrel to make another one on Tikka. Its going in a Pure Pricision Altitude stock. Had it twisted 1:12. Have a pile of Sierra 225's here and various 250's.

Anyone try Staybill match in a 35W?

Never had the opportunity to hunt elk; but love my Whelen. Planning on taking it to a bear hunt next year.
