338 SHERMAN MAX

Ordered.

shot some more 250 bergers under some h100v, which I didn't get to the other day. they shot the same speed as the RL-17, but at a gr higher. both will probably end up at about 2890 fps. the RL-17 was much more accurate in my gun.

What's the details on your rifle again?

I went cheapo since I'm sort of a newby. didn't want to buy a big custom when I didn't have much experience
Its a winchester xpr with a 25' hart 10 twist light palma, with a muzzle brakes and more little slab beast brake, bedded boyds stock, 6x24x50 sightron Slll
It has the standard throat

It took about 1-2 grains more in my 338 Sherman too but I was able to get a little more velocity at equal pressure.

BTW. Doc said we cut his FB at .167"
Less than I thought! I remember now that we made it comparable to his SS given the neck length difference.

After a long hiatus...I'm back in the saddle. Just got my 338 Max and started tests today. The rifle is a Remington 700 that was trued/timed, the barrel is a 28" Broughton with 5C rifling and custom muzzle brake built by Jeramiah Alexander from Valley View Guns in Iberia, Mo. Trigger Tech trigger @1lb and Kwik Klip magazine/bottom metal. (Pics will come later)
First run data is as follows:
285ELDM Fed215
7828SSC 4831SC N560
65 2483' 65 2478' 67 2579'
66 2503' 66 2492' 68 2613'
67 2572' 67 2550' 69 ——-
68 2581' 68 2571' 70 2694'
69 2632' 69 2602' 71 ?
70 2672' 70 2635' 72 ?
71 2701' 71 2675'
72 ? 72 ?
73 ? 73 ?
I'm super impressed to say the least. It appears that I'll need to continue exploring other powders going up the column in the "faster" direction. The question marks noted above are currently loaded and will be shot soon. I also have a series loaded with MagPro. I do not have any RL26 to try unfortunately but I do know another aficionado will be building one soon and has plenty of RL26 to give us that data. It appears that 2750' will be achievable. Stay tuned, be safe, good luck this season and God bless you all!

cool thanks is that .167 beyond your standard reamer? or total? he told me earlier the coal with his 285, and it was .177 longer than my coal.

Does anyone have this 338 set up in quick loads yet?? I should have an assortment of bulldozer bullets here this week to see where they'd land OAL
Cheers

Rain didn't stop me from shooting this morning. I shot the following:
7828SSC N560 MagPro
72 2749' 71 2717' 67 2437'
73 2777' 72 2763' 71 2561'

7828SSC reached max pressure @73gr
MagPro still has more room to go up so I'll continue exploring that on my outing
N560 @72gr with no pressure.... I pretty sure there is still room for more but if not this may be my powder
Just a reminder that everyone's build is different and what works in one rifle may not in another. In fact, may be dangerous! So use caution and good luck finding what works in yours. Just plain hard to beat the Sherman Wildcats!!

Maybe you guys can help me. I shot both the 240 dozers 250 bergers with some v550 that I got today. It actually shot about 50 fps slower than the the rl-17 and h100v, when running into pressure. the bergers at 66 g. And the 240 dozers at 65 g.
I was excited at first when I was able to easily fit 71-72g in the case.
It seems that the v550 burns a bit faster than thr RL-17 and h100v. ( school me if I'm wrong). I know the charts are very vague, but v550 is rite between h100v and RL-19. And RL-19 was way too slow
I'm wondering if the v550 would be a good candidate for the 225 bulldozer? or does it need more bullet weight? Thanks
