338 Norma Reloading Data

Thanks for the feedback! As long as the Lapua and Norma are relatively similar in muzzle velocity, the fact that the OAL is shorter for the Norma is great, and I'm assuming the Norma has at least a bit better barrel life which is always nice. Sounds like Norma's the way to go.
It's funny because before I ever explored 338s, I always assumed 338 Lapua was head and shoulders over any other 338 cartridge. I'm surprised to now be going with the Norma but it just seems to be the better option.

You will love the Norma. It is super easy to load for and benchrest accurate, while still giving you Lapua class performance. I refer to it as the 6.5x47 of 338 super magnums.

that definitely sums it up!

i'm running a 300 Norma (and 6.5x47L) and shot against a 338 Norma i hit the rock out past 1k and poof of dust, buddy hit rock and a chunk falls off (repeatedly) he made 1k gong bounce on chains i made it swing, i ting steel animals out to 1k and had to shoot first as he knocked them over!

Currently breaking in a new build. I'm getting 2700fps out of my 24" Proof barrel with 300SMK, 87.8 H1000, 215M, virgin Norma brass, 3.600" COAL which is .013" off lands.

Anyone have any data with 250-300 class bullets and R26?

I worked from 81 up to 86 grains of rl26 with an HBN coated 300 Berger, velocity touched 2800 fps in the 28" barrel, but I never got pressure signs. I switched to h1000 before testing it further.

Gonna bump this thread. I liked the first .338 NM so much, I built another ha ha. This one is a 24" #5 9 twist spiral fluted Lilja with a MBM titanium 5 port beast brake, I am only waiting on the Manners EH-1 to get here, this finished scoped rifle will be right at or possibly just under 9 lbs.

Gonna start out with the standard Berger 300 grain Elite Hunters, but I also ordered some 285 Hammer Hunters to try out in it, will be using N570 with the 285 hh's. I'll post my results when I get them. Anyone else tried the 285 HH's in a .338 norma?

These 285 Hammers are MONSTER bullets ha ha. 285 HH next to a 300 Berger Elite Hunter.

Beast mode engaged! Major carnal damage on the horizon!
Interested to see how the B.C. stacks up, Hammer has it listed at .356 G7, but I have heard some people say that they actually fly a little flatter than what they have listed. After I get a good load worked up, I plan on stretching it out to 1600+ yards, I should be able to come up with some good B.C. numbers. They sure look like they shouldn't be that far behind the 300 Berger G7 B.C. of .417......

I'll be paying attention, my 338 rum on the new terminus helios action should be getting done soon. I planned on running 270 eld-x, but might have to give these or the badlands bulldozers a shot.

What is your twist? I intentionally went with a 9 twist, because that is the minimum required for these 285 HH's.

Exactly the thread I was looking for! Fix'n to build my 338NM and was searching for days. Keep up the great info!
