338 Norma Reloading Data

I am just finishing up a build now. I went with Preferred Barrel Blanks. 26" carbon fiber wrapped 1:9 twist. I want to use 250gr mono also but having trouble finding load data. I have talked to Hornady and Nosler and they have no information. I got some data from Berger but those are not mono. I have a request into Barnes for the 250gr LRX and haven't heard anything back from them yet.
I've got some data for the 250 SBD2.

90.2grains of H1000 was giving me 2900fps in the 26" 5R 9.3 twist Bartlein I had on there.

Haven't done any loads for the 250 in my 1:8 twist yet.

For guys using barrels with faster than a 1-9.5 twist (give or take), where are you sourcing barrels?

Looking for something 9 twist or faster, heavy palma or similar to push 250 gr high bc mono's.

Options seem limited! Fair amount of 9.3, 9.5, 10, 11 twists available however.
Mine is an 8 twist Carbon six barrel.

The 275 CEB MTH looks like it will work for me
Initial results on load testing are promising
I'll have to order some more 275's to continue

I have to develop loads of novel bullets all the time. My method is to look up data for existing mono or nonmono bullets of similar weight in the same caliber and start out at the low end of the recommended powder charge, then proceed to incrementally increase the charge until I see early signs of pressure, usually increases in bolt lift effort.

Hello all, finally got a group worthy of sharing. After about a year of messing with the rifle off and on when I got time it came together this weekend for me. I have only used Ramshot Grand for powder since that's all that was in stock at the time I was looking last year so I ordered 5 pounds of the stuff. I tried a couple different bullets, Cutting Edge Lazer 225, Barnes LRX 250 and Hornady ELD-X 270 and settled on trying the ELD-X. I was getting great ES and SD at 88 grains of powder .020 off jam but the groups were not tight enough for my liking. I finally did another ladder test back in March and put the velocities on a graph and found a nice flat spot between 83-84.5 and loaded some up and promptly got busy and they sat until the other day. Took it out and fired it in groups of three with six rounds of each powder charge with almost an hour between groups. Best of them was the two groups of three at 83.5 grains. My only concern is I was using the last of my virgin brass for this test. I'm hoping that after cleaning, annealing, and bumping back .002 I won't loose it because I'm super happy with it and it's going to be my load for my African Safari trip with my Dad in October. The bright spot is I now have 150 rounds of once fired brass in two lots, one of 50 and one of 100.

Happy Shooting!

Ramshot Grand 83.5
Norma brass with Federal 215 match
Impact numbers are not correct with the order of fire, just started adding them in

Has anyone had a 338 Norma Improved with a longer barrel? Curious how much velocity can be rung out of this efficient case with a 30-32" barrel. Hoping for 2950-3050 with a 300gr berger and 3100 with a lighter mono like a 260-275gr cutting edge or hammer.

From other reports that's doable with an Improved 338 Norma and those barrel lengths.

I am also at 2950ish with a 30" barrel.

I could only get 2900ish with a Hammer 267HHT with my 26" barreled 3338NMI so I'd think in a 30" barrel you'd be 3000ish.

If I remember right I'm about 2850 with h1000. Retumbo was way too spiky in pressure for my comfort level. Rl33 ahot very well for me.

Mine has a 28" C6 barrel in 8 twist.

It shoots the 275CE Lazers at 3100fps with N570.

It runs the 300 Berger at 2925.
