Hey guys I'm new to this forum and looking for some input on the 338 Norma mag.
I'm having one built for my LR elk rifle and I plan on shooting 265 ABLR's.

I'd like to know what sort of velocity guys are getting with 250-270 grain bullets.
I'll be shooting a 26" 9.5 twist barrel.

Right on man that's fast.
Do you remember what powder you used?
I can't find any data with bullets in that weight range

I get to 2,900 fps. also....

But with the 260 grain Hammer Hunter.;):D

This is over either H-1000 or VVN-565. Start at 85.0 grains and work up slowly until you approach 2,900 which is at the very top so BE CAREFUL!

My 338 Norma has a 24in 1:10 barrel.

My load results:

300gn Bergers seem to leave at 2680fps with AR2217 (sold in the US as H1000), whilst AR2225 (sold in the US as Retumbo) give a little more speed, but worse shot to shot variation (moving into double digit ES).

285gn ELD-M 2760fps with AR2217, and 2790fps with AR2225.

250gn Berger OTM will go up to 2960fps with AR2217, but accuracy seems to be better in my rifle at 2890fps.

Single digit ES on these loads if I take care in preparing them.

With your 26in barrel, but tighter twist, you should be able to find a good load in the 91 to 94gn of H1000 range with a velocity of around 2900fps.

Please update this thread as you go. As you have found, there is not much real data out there for the 338 Norma.
