.300wm

Guys go easy on me! I am new to these rounds we are using a .308 at the min, but thinking of the .300WM any pros cons?
It will be used for hunting deer and at the local range which stretches out to 1200yards.
I say why not have both... :D

Nice looking pair of 5R's , .308 on left and .300 WM on right .
Look just like mine , except for the scopes .
My 5R .308 wears a Leupold Mark IV 4.5x14x40 Long Range Target scope on 20 moa base , using 175 gr. Sierra Match King bullets , IMR 4064 powder , Win. Large Rifle primers , EXCEPTIONAL accuracy .
My 5R .300 Win. Mag. will be fitted with a Sightron SIII 6x24x50 LRMOA scope on a 30 moa base . I have just purchased the rifle , and have not yet had time for load development , but I have purchased Berger 215 gr. Hybrid bullets to use , Hodgdon H1000 and Retumbo powder , also IMR 7828ssc powder , and Fed. 215 primers . I hope that the .300 WM will be somewhere close in accuracy to the .308 .

If the largest game you intend to shoot is a 200lb or so deer, you may want to think about a .243 Winchester or similar 6mm round. You can get every bit as good of ballistics as the 300WM (which I love) without the recoil. You get the long range target shooting capability but can still take deer easily at more moderate ranges.

The 300WM is better if you plan on extending your actual hunting range out further or if the animals are bigger.
I'm sorry that just simply isn't true. You cannot approach the same Ballistic Coefficients of the heavy for caliber .30 cals with anything in a .243 so it is just not possible to get the same ballistics.

Yes at shorter ranges the .243 is flatter shooting and more than adequate for deer but it's not even in the same league ballistically or at long range as the .300WM.
