Good afternoon fellow enthusiast,

I am currently working on load development for my 300 winmag that's has .195 freebore, 26 inch barrel, 1 and 9 twist rate, I'm working on loading it with Ramshot Magnum powder. The clambering was done by TS customs. It's a rifle I put together myself (for those who want to see a picture of it, I added one of the rifle) . Current round count on the barrel is 65 rounds. I have found some accuracy at 77gr, 2,725FPS.

When working up past that, I have seen the shot placement go all over the place. I have only worked up to 78gr and still haven't hit pressure. Depend on what you find on the internet, that's pretty high and other places that pretty low. Was wondering if I should go higher or just stay at the 77gr? I really want to go high but don't know if I should. I was originally hoping to push the 215 bullet up to 2,900FPS.

Also, I don't know much about the powder, but was a little confused on going up a grain and only getting 2,775FPS. I was thinking it would have went higher than that. But, I don't have much experience with this powder. I have added pictures of targets to the thread.

Thanks I'm advanced.

It's like climbing a hill! You'll find acceptable accuracy at a lower charge and then moa grows as powder charge increases. Then it'll start to shrink back down. You might have to play with coal in some cases when doing this? If speed is more important than accuracy then keep adding powder. I have magnum and 215's also along with 3 300wm's and haven't reloaded for any of them yet. Looks like the 77.8 is shrinking back down, so keep going if you like?

I'll keep going up for now and see what happens. I'm guessing I should go up by 1gr? I'm not seeing much difference on half gr. Only 25FPS and 50FPS on the 1gr increment. All reading are taken with a lab radar.

I have oodles of experience loading for 300WM and 215's, 2,900fps is doable in some rifles and not others. I have 5 such rifles and 8 barrels starting at 26" and going through to 32".
Most 26" barrels top out around 2,850fps unless you use a ball powder like 780. If you are lucky and get above 2,900fps, such as 2 of my 26" barrels that run right around 3,000fps, then you will be doing very, very well. The throats on those 2 barrels are well beyond .220" from the A191 chamber they run…so, this is where the extra velocity comes from.
I've never used Ramshot Magnum, but have used H1000, RE25 and RETUMBO to reach 3,000fps in those barrels.

Cheers.

Without seeing your brass or knowing what loads got you to pressure before I'd just keep going up a half a grain until you see pressure. Here's my buddies rifle shooting a 208 ELDM. He still wasn't seeing pressure but like the load so he left it alone.

Not to be rude but without seeing your primers or knowing how soon/ late your rifle developed pressure no one can tell you what to do. So if you aren't seeing the classic pressure sign I'd keep increasing at a half grain increment until you see pressure/ velocity. And if you aren't sure about load data contact Berger.

Ok, so what grains did you start out with on H-1000 and work up to?
I start at 73 grains H1000, Norma brass, CCI 250 primer and seat 215s .020" off the lands. That load has been safe to start with in about a dozen different 300 WM rifles that I've loaded for. Work up to pressure signs in your individual rifle, they all reach pressure at different points.

And the coal is?
