300 Weatherby and 215 Berger Hybrids

Dawg, my son's 300 Wby shoots the 215 very well with H1000. Did not try H4831SC and Retumbo was not as promising. Try the Hodgdon load data site for data, I think he used 81.5 gr of H1000. Start low and work up. It shoots the 210 VLD even better. Good luck

My load is 81gr of H1000 and the speed was 2900fps. I work up to 82 but the group started to open up after 81.5gr

I shoot a 300 WIN MAG but I would keep the H1000 for sure. Try seating the 215's 30-40 thou off the lands. This seems to be the sweet spot. Some guns like them even farther off than this, but most are in this range. My Win Mag likes them 30 thou off.

You can send us a quick email to [email protected] and we can send you the full list of powders with starting and max loads for that bullet. You are certainly in the right ballpark for which powders would likely be the best.

Thanks to you guys, I went out with my Remington 700 mountain in 300 Roy.
Loaded up 3 rounds--Weatherby brass/215m/215gr hybrid/80gr-h-1000
First group was .945, avg. 2744fps.

Next load--5 rounds Weatherby brass/215m/215gr hybrid/81gr. h-1000
Second group, 5 shot--.984, avg. right at 2800fps, zero signs of pressure.

this is a pure sporter barrel-24" overall, finishing at .638

I'm happy with these groups at 100yds.

Will load some more and start stretching it's legs a bit.

Might be nice to gain a bit more fps but if accuracy suffers, I'll just dial a bit more.

If I could shave .25 off these groups I'd be ecstatic, for this gun.

Once again, thanks for the discussion, it got me out of the man cave and shooting.

How far are you off the lands? A lot (me included) have had luck with the 215s .050 off the lands. Is it me or do the MVs seem low?

Using the 215 in the Hornady OAL gauge, it shows I'm touching when this bullet is set at 4.148(ran gauge 3 times)
I seated my loads out to 3.80 and single fed.(over 5/16" jump to lands)
FPS seems slow to me as well.
I have printed off a chart using the ballistic calculator from this site.
I'm hoping to go out today and shoot 500yds, that should give me a better idea.
If 500 goes well, I'll try 1000.

The data I received from Berger shows 79gr h-1000 producing 2858fps.

Loaded 3 sets of 3 today.

All 81gr. H1000

3.75AOL
3.70AOL
3.65AOL

The last 2 disappointed, the 3.75 shot a .741 group.(100yds)

Still a bit perplexed with FPS, the 3.75 was 2785.

If I get a chance today, I'll bump the powder up at this length.

I did get a chance to shoot 500yds as well, it was mid day and mirage had my 2"square jumping around 2-3inches.

I was between 5- 5.5 MOA, which seems to be pretty close to the fps on my chrono.

I also dialed up 20 MOA at 1000yd rock and hit.

With a COAL of 3.65 and 81 gr. of h1000 my fps was 2900fps. This was with a 26" barrel. I would go back to 3.8 and start working up in half grain from 81 until you start seeing pressure signs.

Just a guess, but if it came off the WBY assembly line, I'm guessing that there is a MONSTER amount of freebore built into it. I would be suprised if he cold even get to the lands. Unless WBY changed the way they do things.

Kept COAL at 3.75

H1000

81.5--1.2" group @ 2785fps
82--2.5" group@ 2834fps
82.5--1.1" group @2842fps

still no pressure signs.
