What velocity are you guys getting from your 30 Nosler? Also does any one know anything about this cartridge as far as performance goes? A friend is looking into buying one, just trying to learn more about it

I think the 30 is an excellent case. I worked with a 25" barrel throated for 215 hybrids. I hit pressure (increased bolt lift) at 3150 with H1000 and 3200 with retumbo. There were nodes at the low 3000s and right about 3100. Its a solid 100 fps gain over a 300 WM. 100 fps is not going to make any real difference in the field, but its there.

In my SAAMI throated CA Ridgeline 26" I'm getting 2980 with Retumbo in it's highest node. I could only get around 3020 before hitting pressure. I've just started testing my Fierce SAAMI chambered CT Edge with N570 it looks like the accuracy node is going to be at 3120 in a 26". Alex, how much more freebore do you have over SAAMI? When I seat a 215 with the boatail junction at the neck shoulder junction I come up with exactly what the SAAMI is.

My reamer has a .225" freebore. Everyone seems to have a different measure of "pressure". I do not care what primers look like or if I have light ejector marks. Those things vary with action and primer choice. I go by bolt lift. If the bolt gets any stiffness, I am at pressure and back off.

This is how I judge as well. I will also back off if primer pockets are getting loose too early.

I lose primer pockets prior to stiff bolt lift in my rifles, so I don't load to stiff bolts. I have too much time into case prep to toss them or swage down the primer pockets after 3 firings. The extra 100fps value isn't worth it - for me.
Extra MV reads good on the Forum, but that's about all it's good for...

I don't want to throw brass away after three firings anymore than the next guy and will avoid it when possible. Having said that I have NEVER had a rifle that will just shoot well at whatever velocity I want like some others have claimed. I have always seen nodes about 100-150 fps apart. If I have to lose 150fps just to save brass there is no way I am going to do that. I will just suck it up and buy the brass. I always let the rifle dictate the load.

I agree. I see so many pushing cases to the edge. A lot of times you end up with trashed brass, extraction issues , exc. Thats why I like the bigger case. You can run the low node at just over 3000 without pushing anything.
