Got my hands on a M1 Garand and I could use a little help starting on a good load. Bullets, powders, etc. I was told that Garands do not like the heavier bullets. Is this true?

I have never reloaded this caliber before so any help is appreciated.

Please and Thank you,

Ryan

Use a 165g Bullet, It'll shoot any of them but a Spitzer Boattail will be best. IMR 4895 is actually the powder used in the Garand Ammo and is what the System was designed around (if I recall correctly). Hope this helps.

Go to "master poe's temple" web site and click on m1 load data (from the NRA) and READ the articles there and also from FULTON ARMORY . M1's are fun to shoot, but have a few little quirks you should be aware of.

RYAN- one year i loaded 2200 rounds for mine. i-4895, great. h-4895 and varget. I 4064 too. i shot mostly 167, 168 . some 175 and 155. killed a lot of targets.
