Hoping someone could run a quickload report for 280 AI
162 Hornady ELD-X
Nosler brass COAl 2.525
26" barrel
H4350

I've started load development and starting to get decent velocity with no signs of approaching max pressures.

Thanks in advance!
Joe

You need a chronograph to get close estimates of velocity and chamber pressure. You adjust the burn rate in Quickload until the velocity matches the chronograph. On top of this you need the case capacity from a fired case from "your" rifle. Quickload defaults to the least case capacity of that caliber. And I have seen as much as 6,000 psi difference in chamber pressure in cases with the most case capacity.

There is simply too many variables in firearms and reloading components for a software program to output accurate data without adjusting and tweaking it.

I do have chronograph results from load development. I'll look at them in the morning. I'll grab case capacity too

Nosler Case capacity: 71.9 grn

H4350 avg velocities:
53.0: 2756
53.3: 2773
53.6: 2789
53.9: 2821
54.2: 2829

See attached file. The first half contains 71.4gn case capacity, and the second half is the default 74.0gn case capacity data.

Your powder charge and velocity data doesn't correlate very well with the 71.4 case capacity data. Either the 71.4 measurement is not correct, or your lot of H4350 is different than the QL database.

Regardless, QL predicts max pressure around 2940-2950 fps for both case capacities.

Remember, QL is a prediction and not gospel. A man much wiser than me once said: "all models are wrong, some models are helpful".

Considering Nosler max load data for their 168gn/H4350 is 54.0 @2,853 from a 24" tube (estimate 2,900fps with 26"), I think its safe to say you can push towards 2940-2950 before you hit the 65kpsi threshold. Keep an eye out for ejector marks on brass.

GT- thanks a ton for running the report. Felt like 2900fps was attainable, but hadn't found anything published with that bullet and H4350. I'll keep looking for extractor marks. Went back over my brass and they are good so far. Cheers
