I bought a box of Berger 130gr classic hunter bullets. Looking for some advise on load data I have H4831sc and IMR4350. The gun is a factory Rem 700 with HS stock 24" barrel..

Also asking for experience on game with this bullet? I will only use them on deer size game out to 600yrds..

Thanks Bryan

I have used them for the last 3 years and like them. They make a big hole and are easy to load.

I can post some data from the Berger book later, I am currently using conservative Rl22 load. Both of the powders you have are good for that bullet though.

The Berger book is on clearance at MidwayUsa for 18$.

The Berger book lists a max of 66.5g of H4831sc and a book speed of 3233fps and a max of 60.9g of IMR4350 at 3148fps.

COAL is 2.860" in the book.

Those velocities are interesting considering I'm getting 3050+ with a 150 Berger VLD in a 24" Krieger barrel out of my 270 Win. H4831SC. Drops confirmed to 500 yards.

In the Berger book most loads for the 150VLD top out at around 2900fps in a 26" barrel. I would say that your pressure is a little past saami max. 70,000 PSI or more might do it in a 2" shorter barrel like you have. In any case it does not compare to what the WSM would do at the same pressure level.

I have a 270 Sherman which is based on the 270Winny(+ 10% capacity) and it will do book 270wsm velocities in a 22" barrel but the brass won't hold primers after 5 loadings. Primers don't look bad and the bolt opens easily but 5 shots and the primers go in with a finger push(65g of rl22 and a 130vld 3100fps). I have shot the 165 Matrix at 2972fps in the 22" barrel. The 150 VLD and 63g of RL22 will do 2950fps in the 22" barrel.

I actually have been loading my 270WSM at 63g RL22 for 3000fps with the Berger 130 classic hunter. Not even a decent 270 load but I don't need it as I am only shooting deer to 500yards with it. Put a really big hole in a nice 6x5 at 346yards this fall.

I shot a doe with my 270 Sherman and the 130g vld with 64g RL22(3070fps) and most of the right side lung was hanging out of the exit hole in the ribcage.

I started with the 130's and took two Couse deer. 300 and 514 yards no problems. I have since moved up yo the 150's and shot one Elk at 140 yards bullet disintegrated however Elk dropped in tracks (shot placement) h4832sc is my powder of choice around 65 grn should get you approximately 3200 with the 130's.

Thanks for the info.. Appears the load data is the same for the nosler AB I have been using. They list 66.5 as max for H4831sc. I'll try my load and see how it does, I have loaded them .010 off the lands in .020 increaments.
