.264 wm & 129 sst

Took out my (like new) 1965 Remington 700 today.
24" S/S barrel. Bedded and floated.

Brass New W-W neck sized
Primer WLRM
Projectile Hornady 129 SST
Length 3.265" Projectile seated to the cannelure which was also 'just off the lands'.
No signs of pressure.

63 grains 2225 Group 1.600" 2,837 fps
64 grains 2225 0.895"
64 grains 2225 (again) 1.000" 2,881 fps
65 grains 2225 2.125"

The 64 grain load appears consistent and would suit my purposes out to 500 yards which is as far as I hope I ever have to shoot something. 26" barrels are supposed to get these well up to 3,200 fps. I'll be trying 120 and 140 grain projectiles in the future.

You should try you some H-4831 powder. You can get 3000 fps with 140 gr bullets out of a 24" tube. Yo should be able to get close to 3200 fps with 129's with it. I have a 27 3/4" barrel on my 264 Win mag and it really smokes 130 Nosler Accubonds. 3350 fps with 66.5 grs Retumbo. I was getting over 3600 fps with 120 ballistic tips. That is way too fast to use on deer where I hunt. I can get shots anywhere from 25 yards to 800 yards. A ballistic tip going 3600fps would vaporize on the hair inside 200 yards. The 130 Accubond works perfectly on the 5 deer I have taken with it so far from 98 to 275 yards.

I shoot 67 grns of retumbo and 130 bergers they shoot just under 1/2 inch @100. I use to shoot 55grns of IMR4350 with 130 accubonds they also shot around 1/2 @100. The retumbo loads is a faster load though this is out of a sendero 2. I have them seated 20 of the lands. My old Model 70 .264 likes 60.5 grns of IMR 4350 120 nosler bt's seated 10 of the lands it will shoot under 1/2 all day long with this load works great on deer. Hope this helps

Code 4, I have used a .264 WM in a Pre-64 Model 70 Winchester with a 26" barrel since 1996. I load weighed, neck turned Winchester cases with a CCI 250 primer, 63.8 grains of IMR 4350, with a Barnes TSX which is Lee factory crimped on the second band up the shank. With my rifle this load produces 3305 FPS and gives consistant 2" three shot groups at 300 yards. I found that slower burning powders gave pressure issues way before velocities got much past 3100 FPS. MEV

Thx for the help and tips there fellas. I'm going to try for a bit more velocity and a few sources have advised me to try quicker powders or to increase my loads.

I'll post my results when work allows me more range time.
