.264 win mag

Retumbo and 140 grain bullets has been among the top combinations in the .264WM until very recently. Other powders that give good results in the .264 are: H-1000, IMR 7828, and RL-25.

Keep your eye on RL-33. Its recent introduction may prove to be just the ticket for the .264WM. I haven't had the chance to work with it yet, but others are reporting excellent results.

I have a 27 3/4" barrel 9 twist Shilen barrel on my 264 Win mag and Retumbo and 130 gr Accubonds do 3350 fps with outstanding accuracy. Love the Accubond for deer. I have shot about a dozen deer with it the past three years from about 50 yards to nearly 400 yards mostly through both shoulders and all but one bullet exited and all have not taken more than one or two staggering steps with most looking like the ground was jerked from underneath them. Recovered one bullet from a buck shot a 111 yards almost head on through left shoulder and was found in the smashed ball socket of right ham. Text book mushroom and weight was 87 grs. Don't get much better than that.

I am closely following what is happening with Reloader 33.

My highest velocity with 140 gr bullets in the 6.5 WSM is with Vhitavuori N-570. I use 67.7 gr with CCI 250 primers under Berger 140 Hunting VLD. I get 3260 fps (28 inch barrel). I can get about 80 fps with 66.6 gr of Retumbo.

I have tried Norma 217 and it is too slow, even with 160 Sierra Semipointed or Woodleighs. With 160 gr I would use N-570 and get 2950 fps.

Your .264 Win Mag holds 8 more grains of powder. I had two of them before my WSM days.

My favorite load for my 264 is 70 grains of Retumbo Fed 215m with a 140 Berger vld hunting. I get 3280 fps and .5 moa or better out to 1000 yds if I do my part. I also bought 8lbs of H-870 and messed around with it a little this winter. 77 grains with fed 215m and berger 140 got me 3250ish cant remember the exact velocity have it wrote down in the basement. I had some decent 100 yard groups in the around .5 moa also had a couple 500 yard groups around 2.5-3 inches. I did shoot some of the 870 at 1126 yards this winter with decent results after I got on target. Shot a 3 shot 8 inch group. I wanted to shoot a couple more groups with it that day but the wind was pretty stout and kept chainging directions . I wil have to try it out again this fall or something. I don't like to shoot the 264 more than I have to, trying to make the barrel last as long as possible.
