Hey guy's I'm looking into reaming a 2506 rem to a ackley imp and was wondering if anyone had used a remington version for a length of time and had it reamed to an ackley. And did it gain a desirable velocity or is it worth the cost of a new set of dies? I shoot either 115 berger vld or moly coated 115 nosler with half inch groups at 100yds at 3140 fps in a stainless 116 varmint savage 26 inch barrel with an 1lb sharp shooter trigger. Will I gain much velocity with an ai change?

In my opinion ... NO. Even if you gain 150-200 fps, the wear and tear on the barrel, casings, cost of new dies makes it not worth it. If you need more power just step up to 6.5/06 or 280, much more cost effective.

Yes, you will gain a fair bit of velocity. It is definitely worth it. I have had my .25-06 AI since Feb 2014, and it has been an excellent rifle and caliber. Forming brass is simple, and the velocity gain is worth the effort. It was within 100 fps of my .257 Wby (traded the weatherby).

I used a 26" factory Sendero SF .25-06 barrel, and had my smith open the chamber with an 40-degree AI reamer. Worked out perfect. I shoot Berger 115's behind IMR 7828 SSC and Federal 210M primers.

Thanks to All, Hey Mud, what kind of velocity should I expect probably will use rl 25 as my first trial, And this barrel is not hard to please it has shot various bullets with 3 or 4 other powders and done well with all

Velocities will vary. Brass lots will vary in case capacity. Some barrels shoot faster than others... Way too many variables for anyone to give a prediction like that.

RL25 (136) is directly below 7828 SSC (135) on the Hodgdon powder burn chart. So it should be an excellent powder for the heavy (115-120) bullets.

The 25-06 AI is probably my favorite chambering. When I lived in Utah I did animal control for 4 ranches. I have shot about a million critters with that rifle. The Sierra 100 MK is a very good fur load when it comes to coyotes. Use at least a 26" barrel & you can't go wrong.
Thanks, Kirk

I like mine. It is a very pleasant caliber to shoot with low recoil. My rifle likes the 115 Berger with H1000. Shoots them at 3350 fps out of a 26" Krieger.

Thanks Beeman, I also have some h- 1000 you can fill the case with that combo I'm guessing around 57 to 58.5 grains?

Hey Beeman, glad to hear that there is another 25-06 AI fan out there! That is an amazing cartridge. I have sent many sheep killing coyotes to doggy heaven with the 100 Sierra MK.
Thanks, Kirk
