Which would you guys consider to be a better overall varmint/deer cartridge? Max range 500-600 yards. I'd like to get the rifle converted to AI later on for more velocity/range. Right now I'm looking at getting a Savage 12/112 BVSS. Which caliber do you suggest and why?

I own a rem. Model 700 with lilja barrel in 25-06; both .243 and 25-06 perform well on varmits; the 25-06 is much better for deer at the ranges you describe(in my opinion). heavier bullets can buck the wind and retain energy and speed. Recoil is not an issue with either. Check with .243 owners as to the need to frequently trim cases. good luck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
