I just picked up a custom 243 and I'm looking to try out some new loads for coyotes. It has a 22" proof 1:9 twist barrrl: I'm shooting 58s and 87 out of my Tikka t3. Looking for something light and fast to try out alongside my other loads. Will be for coyotes out to 600

87s are a good mix of light and flat, and heavy enough for longish range energy and dependable drop imo.

In the past I've bought the midway USA dogtown 70's. They always put out great groups and the prices can't be beat. Some of the brass I've gotten from them were even nosler headstamp.

I have had good results with 100 grain win power points and 100 grain rem corelocts, but switched to 95 win supreme NBT and have found that they seem to drop them a bit quicker, and they turn their lungs into jello. My dad likes the 95 rem accutip which is a similar bulet to the win NBT. Most of our deer here are farm fed and run between 125lbs - 150 for the does and 150 + for a mature buck. Bigger deer might call for a larger cartridge and heavier bullet.

In 44 years I have never met a coyote that could argue with a 243 Win. so any bullet that expands decently will kill them decisively.

Beyond that, if it's accurate and flies to your criteria what more than you ask for?

My old stand by is no longer made .... the Hornady 75 gr HP flat base but I have some left. My pampered Liberty model Ruger 77V loves them. When my flat base slugs are used up I will be huntin' a new load.

With today's choices I am not sweating starting over.

what's the headstamp? I measured the COAL on both dogtown and nosler headstamped rounds and neither were above the standard of 2.70". The dogtown headstamp were actually shorter at 2.677 and noslers were 2.68. Do other factory rounds cycle? Can you tell where they are jamming?

Rl 23 & RL26 are your friends. Fed 210's. If you are talking V-maxes, segregate by weight and by Ogive length. If you are talking VLD's, take the usual Berger route OCW test, then seating depth test. Always anneal.

This my coyote load out of a 22 in barrel 1:10 twist 243: 43.8 gr IMR4064 with 55 gr. Nosler Bal tip. MV is a tad over 3800 fps. Very accurate load.

My .243 is loving the 87gr vmax over 41.5gr IMR 4831. Not fast (2966 out of a 22" barrel) but stupid accurate. Like one little ragged hole that's tough to measure accurate.
