.223 Remington semiauto rifles that don't look like ARs

Not sure the Ruger ranch rifle is "legal" in California right now or not--- it has gone on/off the "assault rifle list" several times over the years.
Last I knew, ruger did offer a "ca compliant" - featureless "ranch" rifle --- but calis rules change quickly.
You should read up on cali laws and do some research before choosing. Ruger does make 10 round mags for it but no "clips"
I am not sure this OP isn't just "hunting" for more info or "comments" from gun owners/hunters on specifically "Remington semi-auto rifles" for reasons other than he and his "friend" actually owning one. Have a sneaky feeling he knows all about restrictive gun laws and how they come about. The "clip" comment 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Nope. They don't offer them with a "clip". However, they do make "magazines" for them with as low as 5 round capacity.

No I think he is right, they have some with a 30 magazine clip in 1/2 second. I saw a video Kevin DeLeon did on them. Of course that was a GHOST GUN, I think it was fully semi automatic too.

Ignore most of the previous comments. Ruger makes and sells the Mini-14 in .223/5.56NATO configuration. Go here: https://www.ruger.com/products/mini14RanchRifle/models.html
I had two and sold one recently through my LGS (here in CA).
You can used Mini-14s but make sure the model is 181 or later. The model 180 is no longer supported parts wise by Ruger.
Ruger sells, as an accessory, ten round magazines. Go here:
https://shopruger.com/Mini-14-10-Round-Magazine/productinfo/90339/ for the OEM model (preferred)
https://shopruger.com/556-NATO_223-Rem-10-Round-Magazine/productinfo/90659/ for a less expensive model but with some negative comments. You get what you pay for.
In CA you cannot add a 'flash protector' or 'silencer' but you can add a 'compensator'.
Hope this helps.
