Got out today and shot 10 shot strings of H4895 under 75gr Hornady hpbt. 2.255COAL. This out of a WOA 18" suppressed AR in mid length gas system.

22.9 gr 2685 FPS AVE 19.6 SD

23.2 gr 2692 FPS AVE 17.5 SD

23.5 gr 2742 FPS 17.1 SD

23.8 gr 2783 FPS 13.2 SD

24.1 gr 2817 FPS 12.4 SD

24.4 gr 2828 FPS 19.3 SD

Now to start working 23.6gr to 24.2 in .2gr increments and see what there is to see. Clearly fell off the map at 24.4gr.

Re: 223 75gr BTHP over H4895

Look's like a very well behaved powder for the 223. Steady gains in MV following increased powder charges. Thanks for sharing.

I've decided to buy 1lb of H4895 and try it behind the Hornady 60gr Vmax. Been getting some disappointingly high ES / SD in MV using Varget. BL-C(2), on the other hand, seems to perform pretty well behind my 60gr bullets.

My 223 really liked benchmark! Tried them all but it gave almost one hole groups

H 4895 has worked very well in my 223 Kimber Longmaster Classic with Sierra 63 grain bullets, Nosler 69 Grain bullets and Speer 70 grain bullets. I think you will really like it when you find the sweet spot.

I plan on doing some more powder testing at 23.6-24.2 and then work on seating depth. Not going to be single feeding in the AR so somewhat limited at 2.260.
I didn't like the results I got with benchmark. I last tested 23.8gr which gave an average of 2735FPS with SD 28.1. Yuk.

I use around 22.3gr of 4895 with the 75 HPBT's better speed than 22gr of 8208 but not as low of SD. Tried Reloader 15 also around 22.7gr was the best for my gun. Have read good things about CFE 223 and Ramshot TAC bought a pound of each the other day just haven't gotten around to testing it yet. I love 8208 very consistant and accurate but a little slow with 75's 2500 fps 20" hoping to get the same accuracy but better speed with CFE 223 or TAC.

Best SD I had was around 24.1gr

24.1gr 4895 I'll have to look at my notes I may have been getting pressure signs before that amount. Looking to get to 885 yards it's tough with 223 and 8208 just not enough speed to keep them supersonic with the 75 HPBT's and I'd loose them tumbling. The 75 amax would make the trip but they never did shoot really accurately out of my AR and I have to single load them. Shot Sunday with my boys at 680 yards my 12 year old hit 8 for 10 on a 12"x20" plate that was fun.

That may be tough out of an AR. My data shows should be supersonic to abou 800.
