22-250 and 220 Swift loads please

Need some starting points for load developement for a 22-250 24" 1 in 12" using 55 and 60 gr Hrndy VMax and either Varget or H380.

Also 220 Swift 24" 1 in 14" using 55gr VMax and Varget or H380.

Shooting 100 yard bench and longrange varminting.

I have a M700 VLS 22-250 with a 1:14 twist and have found the following loads-

My rifle seems to prefer Varget for the 50 gr BT and RL15 for the 55 gr BT and 60 gr PT bullets.
I've been trying to find a load with the heavier bullets and need to continue my load development. This is at least a starting point for you.

33.5 gr Varget, 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips @ 2.42 OAL give me 3415 fps out of a 26" tube. These loads shoot .3 for me consistently.

36 gr Varget, 52 gr A-Max give me 3620. usually .4-.5" groups.

38 gr WIN 760, 55 gr Sierra BTHP give me 3450 fps out of the same gun at .3"

I believe that I prefer the noslers

You are able to stabalize a 60 gr in your 1/14" twist? I didn't think they would. Guess I'll have to give them a try. I know I can't get a 69 gr AMax to stabalize in my 1/12" twist.

I got a new model 12BVSS for christmas 22-250 w/ 1-12 twist 26". Did some load testing this past tuesday with varget & H380 55gr sbks & 55gr nosler bts best load so far is 55 gr noslers over 32.5gr varget with cci br2 primers and remington brass.Tested from 31gr-36gr of varget with both bullets but this combo was shooting .2s and .3s at 110yds.I've been wantin to try some A maxs and 52gr smks.

I used the following when I shot a 220 Swift;

1. Powder-43grns of H414
2. Brass-Norma
3. Primer-Federal 210M
4. Bullet-40grn Ballistic Tip
5. Velocity-4200fps out of a 30" barrel
6. Average 3 shot group, out of my Custom 220 Swift, at 100 yards was .245.

This load was deadly accurate out to 600 yards.

You can use more powder, however, once you start going past 43grns with this powder, you will start to see preasure signs. 43grns of H414 worked perfect out of my rifle.

One caveat with these ball powders: they can be very temperature sensitive. I had to pull a lot of warm 22-250AI/H414 loads that had shot beautifully here in the cool spring, but nearly blew primers in the summer heat of the western prairie.

I know this is a well known problem, but I discounted it until I actually experienced it. Something to keep in mind, anyway.

I now prefer VV160 to H414 (WW760).

That is why I asked for Varget loads. I found it works well with temp changes. I live in Alabama and do most load developement in the nice summer weather but hunt in Wisconsin in November. Just a slight temp change.

I never achieved spectacular results in my Swift with Varget. Accuracy was okay but the velocities never got to where I though they should be. I may have been able to push a little harder but instead I switched to VV powder s and never looked back. I run exclusively N540 through my Swift and get great results. Additionally, temperature sensitivity does not seem to be an issue at all even with my very hot loads. I run the same loads for chucks in July (90 degrees) to coyotes night hunting in January (single digits). They shoot to the same POI, exhibit no pressure signs and are accurate across the range.

My swift likes just about everything it shoots. The best so far are

36.4 g varget under 55 g vmax at 3700 fps
38 g 4064 under 52 g smk at 3900 fps This one flirts with 4000 fps in hot weather.

Both consistently group .5-.7 in a factory rem 700 vssf.
